On canvas board, and framed nicely with classic wooden carved frame. The painting measures 8x 10 inches, plus the frame makes it approximately 14 X 15.50 inches in width. Looks to possibly have been painted in the 1950s. Very realistic and finely detailed. It makes an onlooker feel as though he were walking through this lively desert. Mountains in background, there are cacti blooming in the foreground, with a stone fringed path. Small trees and other lovely desert plants grow, as a few clouds shield from the sunshine. Here is a charming vintage Southern California desert plein air impressionism oil painting by O. The signature of the artist is very faint on the lower right hand corner of the painting. The picture is framed in a dark brown hand carved wood frame. THE ORNATE PERIOD FRAME IS MADE OF A HEAVY WEIGHT WOODEN MATERIAL AND THE FRAME HAS SOME WEIGHT TO IT WHEN HOLDING ONTO IT. The plein air impressionism painting is signed but not dated. We are not experts in the arts but the frame seems to be original and the picture is in excellent condition. THIS PAINTING IS A CLASSIC AND ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL PAINTING THAT DEPICTS IN THE DESERT WASH HABITAT OF PALM SPRINGS AGAINST A MOUNTAIN AREA. Original vintage mid century plein air painting. Location: Borrego Springs, California. Measures: canvas 22 x 26 Frame 24.5 x 28.5. Medium: oil on canvas. Signed & dated on the front bottom right corner and signed again with location on back. Has heavy crazing (craquelure) throughout! Canvas is slightly wavy needs to possibly be restreched and or tightened, one small pin hole (surface only, has not gone all the way through) scuffs, scratches, tiny spots and or other wear from age. Its going to need some repairs/restored and a little TLC. Does it still look beautiful on the wall just the way it is? For the past twelve years, I have been traveling in my Airstream trailer painting landscapes of this beautiful country of ours creating art that tries to capture a poetic mood. The crisp, bright, airy and colorful painting depicts a rural ranch or farm house with a dusting of snow, showing desert sagebrush and windswept tree, a rough, rocky yard, and lofty cloud-shrouded mountains in the distance. As a lover of the mountain desert this painting captures the essence of a time and place. Perhaps a viewer knows the location of this rustic, remote house and mountain view. Obscured writing on the paper backing (see photos) may reveal part of the paintings original title, ________ a Utah Farm. A graduate of the University of Utah at age 22, the artist went on to study painting at the Art Institute of Chicago, and taught painting at UUtah for 25 years. The majority of her paintings are retained in a private collection, so this may indeed be a rare find. 16 by 20 painting is mounted in a 19 3/4 by 23 3/4 frame. The final photo in this listing shows the painting before the repair, and is included only for comparison.
