Antique French 1900 oil paint canvas 3 Wood Panel Screen Room Divider Art deco
Antique from 1900 or older, 3 wood panel “paravent” room divider with oil on canvas painted décor of night dark scenes and paysages. Also up some brass décor graved and thick glass beveled and colored antique glass with bubbles inside. Wood parts has some imperfections and one area needs just to be reglued gently. Metal system opening between each panel will need little attention. Complete room divider opened is about 60 inches large at all. And each panels is 61 inches tall. Edwin Hayes (1820-1904) On the coast Dunstanborough Northumberland Oil Panel
Beautiful seascape painting by Edwin Hayes picturing Dunstanborough, Northhumberland in ruff sea. Inner frame: 35 19 cm. Outet frame: 53 36 cm. Hayes was born in Bristol, England but brought up in Dublin, Ireland where his father was a hotelier. He studied art at the Dublin Society Art School and first exhibited his work at the RHA (Royal Hibernian Academy) in 1842. He remained in Dublin for ten years before moving to London. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, British Institution, Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, becoming a full member of the latter in 1863. Hayes painted seascapes in Ireland, England, Belgium, Holland, France, Spain and Italy, his work invariably featuring ships and boats in high seas, harbour scenes or other aspects of the coastline. OLD MASTER Oil Painting VISION OF SAINT JEROME Antique Panel 17 C. ITALIAN
A very fine Old Master oil on canvas, I believe it depicts the vision of St. Jerome in the Syrian wilderness. I acquired it in the 1980s in Paris, but I suspect it is of Italian origins. Although painted on canvas, it has been mounted, probably in the 19th century, on a fine old mahogany panel that has been strengthened against warping with oak cross cleats, although it still has acquired a slight bow to the panel. This work deals with the idea of rigid boundaries, the hopeful breakdown of such restrictions, as well as questions about the forces that orchestrate our behavior.
