Antique 19th C. American / European Portrait of a Lady Woman Black Dress SIGNED
This listing is for the Antique 19th Century American / European Portrait of a Lady in a Black Dress pictured above. A lovely circa 1840 portrait of a well-dressed lady in black. The woman, depicted at half-length, is seated and wears an elaborate pink and white bonnet. Her jewelry is equally special and includes a pair of gold earrings, a gold necklace, a pearl and gemstone ring, and supporting gold rings. She sits against a green/brown background that is decorated with an urn filled with roses visible over her right shoulder. The work is oil on canvas and is indiscernibly signed/dated in the lower right. It is housed in an antique/vintage wood and gesso frame. 10 inches tall by 8 inches wide (painting). 13 inches tall by 11 inches wide (frame). Scattered craquelure and inpainting (refer to photo under blacklight). Minor paint loss in hat. Small abrasion on right side. Some toning to varnish and surface accretions.
