Christ Italian Renaissance Old Master 18thC Large Fine Antique Oil Painting
Christ and The Two Sybils, Italian Religious Old Master 18th Century Large Fine Antique Oil Painting. A very fine and monumental oil on canvas depiction of Christ in a Temple with the Two Sybils, the Cumean Sybil and the Tiburtine Sybil. Unsigned, 18th century Italian School, beautifully painted with open and clear detail of the three figure’s features and clothing. In excellent condition, h oused in a fine gilt frame, ready to hang. Please note the large image dimensions of approximately: 47 1/4” x 31” (120cm x 79cm). Recently cleaned and re-varnished by our specialist and long established art conservator here in Norfolk. The present art being a post-prophetic painting showing Christ with the Cumean Sybil and the Tiburtine Sybil, both of whom prophesied the life and reign of Christ. Both women are shown here looking at each other as a realisation and confirmation of their respective prophecies. In my own collection and formerly with a private Gloucestershire collection.
