Based primarily in the Estes Park, Colorado area, he painted primarily in the Rocky Mountain National Park. He worked exclusively in oils and painted on board for the most part. He was perhaps most well known for his colorful aspen paintings of which this is a fine example. The artwork here measures approximately 14″ x 21 1/2″. The framed size is about 18 1/2 x 26. It is artist signed in the lower right hand corner. It is nicely framed in a gold frame and the back is covered with a black backing paper. A note on the back shows the name of this painting to be Rose Aspens. This painting along with the frame are both in excellent condition, and it is ready to hang on your wall for years of enjoyment. This year marks my 40th year as an estate liquidator. I strive to be accurate in my listing descriptions. If you have a question or concern about any item, please contact me BEFORE making an offer. Unframed 16″ x 18″. Framed 30 x 31 1/2. Medium Original Painting, Acrylic on Canvas. The Statue of Liberty head is a classic Peter Max subject. He has created many versions but none better looking, or with better colors, than this one. This iconic Peter Max painting originated from his work to save the Statue of Liberty. From there he created a series that generated enough funding to restore the American landmark. It is professionally framed with a black lacquer outer frame and has a triple matting technique where the middle mat is hand painted to accentuate the paints and colors used at the four sides of the painting. Two of the mats are made of cream linen. Each artist has good days and bad days and this was clearly painted on one of Peter’s better days.. Peter Max was born in 1937 in Germany. In 1938 he and his family fled the Nazis and moved to Shanghai, China where they lived for ten years before moving to Israel. In 1954 his family finally moved and settled in Brooklyn, New York. As you can see, this is one of the better pieces that Peter Max has painted despite his practice to paint many different types of Liberty. Peter Max has been the official artist for; 1994 World Cup, the Grammy Awards, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Super Bowl. In 1976, he worked with Lee Iacocca of Chrysler to save the Statue of Liberty, creating a series that generated enough funding to restore the desperately worn landmark. He has developed new imagery, like Blushing Beauty, Zero Megalopolis, and The Umbrella Man which have become synonymous with America and American icons, especially the Statue of Liberty. Today, Max has evolved from the psychedelic art phenomenon and visionary pop artist of the 1960s to a master of neo-expressionism. His vibrant and colorful works have become a lasting part of contemporary American culture.
