Winter forest landscape w birches German painter early 20? Painting was painted by an undeniably professional painter. Very well detailed mixed forest easily painted in confident brush strokes depicted in precise color and composition. Indistinct signature lower right A. Wmm may stand for Adalbert Wimmenauer, (February 2, 1869 – November 17, 1914), a German landscape, portrait and figure painter from the Düsseldorf School. 28,5 x 21,5 cm (roughly 11 x 8,5 in) and frame ca 43,5 by 37 cm (roughly 17 x 14,5 in). Very Good condition, damage in wear to frame only, old varnish. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Adalbert Wimmenauer was a son of the high school teacher Theodor Wimmenauer, born on January 20, 1842 in Neckarsteinach. The last educational place of his father was the high school Adolfinum Moers, which Adalbert attended from 1882 to 1887. After graduating from high school, he studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy until 1889/1890. Heinrich Lauenstein, Hugo Crola and Adolf Schill were his teachers there. He then became a student of Max Liebermann in Berlin and Hans Thoma in Karlsruhe. As a freelance artist he settled in Munich, but kept returning to the Lower Rhine, whose landscape he valued as an open-air painter. He also went on study trips to the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. In 1914 Wimmenauer volunteered for service in the First World War. With the Royal Bavarian 16th Reserve Infantry Regiment. A grenade hit him fatally on November 17, 1914. Wimmenauer’s impressionistic landscape painting is often characterized by reserved colors. On the 100th anniversary of his death, the Grafschafter Museum in Moers organized an exhibition of his works. Listing and template services provided by inkFrog. Born: 1881 – Rome, Italy Died: 1951 – Los Angeles, California Known for: portrait, mural, landscape, religious painting. Hector (Ettore) Serbaroli was born in Rome, Italy on Jan. Serbaroli studied art in Rome with Maccari and at the Institute de San Michele with A. Upon winning a painting competition in 1900, he was awarded a commission in Mexico City to decorate the Teatro Nacional (now Bellas Artes). He remained there until the revolution made it impossible to work as an artist. Upon moving to California in 1913, he settled in San Rafael and for several years taught art there at the Mount Tamalpais Military Academy (now the Marin Academy). He worked on commissions for the PPIE and contributed a huge panorama of Mount Tamalpais to the exposition which later hung for many years in the Ferry Building. Antique original German game of chess figural oil painting on canvas Folk Art
Up for sale is a wonderful antique original German chess match oil painting. It’s painted with rich color and an exquisite composition consisting of many different figures. There is a lady seated at a chess table in the foreground while the surrounding figures watch. It is painted on canvas and set in a very ornate modern gilt wooden frame that has a green velour matting. The original canvas was re-backed and stretched with new material as seen in last photo. It’s in nice condition with normal ware and measures 24 1/2 inches by 20 1/4 inches framed. It has some paint loss to one face as shown in last photo. Paul Weber (German 1823-1916) Large Original Oil On Canvas Painting 1855
This Beautiful Paul Weber (Hudson River School) has been hanging in my library for over 50 years. It’s in a beautiful period gold frame. The actual painting size not the frame looks like approx 26 by 36 inches. There is one tinyl nick in the botton left corner about 1/4 inch. Now I’m moving and my whole oil collection must go. You can inquire through messages. Have an artful day! LIFE: He was born in Darmstadt as a son of the composer Johann Daniel Weber (17841848). He studied art in Frankfurt at the Städelschule from 1844 to 1848. He completed his studies with Josephus Laurentius Dyckmans in Antwerp. [1] To study at the Munich Academy he moved together with Anton Burger to Munich, during the studies he accompanied Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria on a trip to the Eastern Mediterranean, which led him to Constantinople, Asia Minor, Greece and Sicily. He completed his artistic training at Josephus Laurentius Dyckmans in Antwerp. In 1848 soon after the collapse of the German Republic, at the age of 25, he moved to the United States, settling in Philadelphia, where he was a frequent exhibitor at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1849 onward. He also exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Brooklyn Art Association, the Boston Athaeneum, the Washington Art Association, and the Paris Salon. Among his students in the class of landscape painting were William Trost Richards, William Stanley Haseltine and Edward Moran. He influenced the Hudson River School. [2] In 1850 his son Carl Weber was born, who became later also a painter of the Hudson River School. In France he spent some time at the Barbizon school. At the court he worked mainly as a lecturer of Princess Alice of the United Kingdom, privately he also taught Phillip Röth, who had married his daughter Pauline. Together with Eugen Bracht they made some journeys for painting in the landscape. Paul Weber travelled also some times back to the United States, where his works were shown on the National Academy of Design and the Boston Athenaeum. In 1872 Paul Weber moved to Munich, the German art metropolis at that time. He painted urban genre scenes and the still existing rural landscape around Munich. Hard to tell if it is put together inlaid or the grain of the wood. Cracking noted but doesn’t distract…. Actually adds more interest…. Not signed on the front that we can tell but clear signature and date on the back. Includes partial piece of paper that was written on and had been on the back. Frame 21.5 x 17.75. Painting 17.75 x 13.75 Original hanger to back of frame. Modeled after the masters. Beautiful depth to his eyes, bear done well. No real paint loss, but some cracking noted and one other small hole noted but doesn’t distract from display. Frame with a little wear to the edges. Gudrun (Barbara) Sibbons German (b, 1925) Original Oil on Canvas Flamenco Dancer. Barbara (Gudrun) Sibbons was born in Annaberg, Silesia, Germany in 1924. After leaving school her art studies took her to Berlin, Breslau and Hamburg. Her art training was interrupted by the start of the war during which time she served as a nurse. Two years after the war she found employment in Hamburg as a doctor’s secretary. In Hamburg she met Bill Sibbons the portrait painter. In 1949 they moved to London and were married. Working first as a laboratory assistant and painted as a hobby. Her work has since featured in numerous exhibitions, some of her well known early clients included David Niven and Errol Flynn, her work is widely sought after and features in numerous collections around the world. Now well into her eighties, Gudrun Sibbons lives on the south coast. This example of her work features an elegant Flamenco Dancer, the colour and movement in this work is fantastic, signed lower right. The painting is in excellent condition as can be seen from the many picture provided, although you will notice in picture 9 a small shallow indentation in the canvas. The image size measures 19 1/4″ x 15 1/2″ overall size is 25 1/4″ x 21 1/4″ including the frame. The frame is original to the picture.
