Landscape artist Cal Gaspard was born and raised on a farm near Kaplan, Louisiana and has lived in Texas since 1964. His art reflects his intimate understanding of nature. A shy person with an unspoiled genuineness in his character, Cal’s personality is the opposite of what people often associate with artists. But, he is also one of the most popular realist artist in Texas. His art has been featured in art publications such as Southwest Art (April 1976) and has been collected throughout the United States and Europe. His education consists of observation, experience and hard work. Cal is a self-taught artist, and has been painting since elementary school. Cal is not opposed to an artist receiving a formal education, but reflects, I feel that my lack of academic training could have possibly proved to be an asset to me in the long run. Whenever I needed help, I had no one to turn to with my art. As a result, it took me longer to learn, but I feel I’ve developed a style uniquely my own. The influence of friend and mentor A. A well-established artist himself, Greer impressed upon Cal the techniques of the old masters and gave him a true appreciation for the study of art. Through his association with Greer, Cal has developed his art to a new level. Cal’s favorite subjects are found in his adopted state of Texas. A resident of Texas since 1961, he has traveled throughout the state capturing its bountiful scenery and rich character. Cal has won many awards in art competitions. One that he noted was in 1974, a statewide exhibition sponsored by the Lone Star Art Guild in Liberty, Texas. Cal won first place and best of show for an original oil painting and first place for an original watercolor. He was the featured artist in the April 1976 Southwest Art magazine. In November 1984 he attended the weeklong invitational seminar conducted at the Cowboy Artist of America Museum, Kerrville, Texas. His waterfowl paintings have been repeatedly selected to be featured as publication covers at Ducks Unlimited auctions throughout the states by numerous fine art collectors throughout the United States. James Michalopoulos Original Oil Painting Remainder Of The Moment On Canvas
Remainder Of the Moment an Original Oil by James Michalopoulos #3344. This stunning Michalopoulos original features a Blue Two Story Victorian home in Uptown New Orleans. Michalopoulos blends bright, brilliant colors and flowing lines to represent the vibrant culture and beauty of the City of New Orleans. Includes authentication and appraisal from the Michalopoulos Gallery as pictured in the listing. Giant gallery framed 36×48 inch piece that was featured in the Michalopoulos gallery in 2017. This piece was in the artists studio collection and was initiated in 1997 and completed by the artist in 2017, where he finished out the stunning blue and white clouds so often seen above New Orleans. Adding value to this piece is the real photo of the house that the piece is based on, showing the brilliance of Michalopoulos work. Celebrated New Orleans artist James Michalopoulos was born in 1951 in Pittsburgh. After graduating from Bowdoin College with a Bachelor of Arts degree he pursued the life of a modern-day itinerate artist, traveling throughout the South while capturing its unexpected, everyday exotica in his paintings. He eventually settled in New Orleans, drawn to the city that would become his muse. He studied fine art at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art and at the University of New Orleans. He began painting en plein air in the French Quarter, working in oil on canvas, and became known for his energetically distorted interpretations of vernacular New Orleans buildings. His paintings capture the life, movement and personality of his subjects. His has a uniquely musical, energetic stylefull of color and broad brushstrokes. He lays paint on thickly, sculpting the paint with a palette knife until his subject emerges. My style is an abstraction of the figurative. I like color, volumetric shape and graphic lines. While one may recognize the subject of my painting, through my work one discovers the spirit of it. Although he remains inspired by the duality of beauty and decay that is the heart of New Orleans, Michalopoulos recent canvases also capture the human form both in portraiture and social scenes, abstracted landscapesmostly of the woods and fields surrounding his home in France, and occasionally animals that have managed to catch both his eye and imagination. His work has been shown extensively in the U. And abroad, including: France, England, Germany, Switzerland and Holland. He has been named Official Artist of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival six times, with his work appearing each time on the coveted poster, an unprecedented, andto dateunmatched honor. Gambit Weekly has declared him Best Artist of the Year eight times. His work has been collected by such distinguished figures as: Jackson Browne, John Goodman, Linda Hamilton, Bonnie Raitt, Sharon Stone, Aaron Neville, Emmylou Harris and Bruce Willis. Public and corporate collections include: the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Governors Mansion of Louisiana, Universal Studios, the New Orleans Museum of Art, Chevrolet Motor Corporation, the Chrysler Corporation and Northwest Airlines, among others.
