19th C. MYSTERY ARTIST ANTIQUE PORTRAIT WOMAN in NATURE ORIGINAL Oil on Canvas
Truly Marvelous 19th Century Mystery Artist painted this Lovely Antique Portrait of a Woman in Nature/Landscape. It is an Original Oil on Canvas from the mid to late 19th C.. It depicts a woman in a purple and black dress with a white apron, in repose, under a tree. She leans her head in one hand, possibly waiting for her beloved, who has kept her waiting too long (a fleeting smile on her lips). Luminously back-lit, the area around her head is marvelously contrasted by her dark dress and the folds in it. Paint application is heavy enough to give depth to the piece, especially the foliage on the upper right (see 3rd to last image). The piece is unsigned and has had 2 small repairs done years ago (see last image). There is craquelure fine pattern of dense cracking formed on the surface. It can be a result of drying, aging, intentional patterning, or a combination of all three throughout the piece. It is also a little out of square. Canvas measures 11 3/8 X 16 3/8 and is in Good Antique condition. There is wear along the edges, especially the top right (see 2nd to last image), but will be covered once framed. Antique Original Oil on Canvas Orientalist Nudes Genre Scene Hungarian? Up for sale is this antique original oil on canvas painting. The painting seems to be unsigned or at least I couldn’t spot a signature. It bares thought Hungarian label verso I couldn’t decipher that could carry an information on the artist. The artist could be Hungarian or the painting could’ve been simply exported at some point from Hungary so it needed some sort of an official appraisal. The painting itself is measuring about 26″ (66 cm) by 21″ (53 cm), and the frame is measuring 31 (79 cm) by 26 (66 cm). There are some minor old repairs to canvas piercings can be detected verso. This fine period piece would be a sound investment and a great addition to any collection.
