This is an interesting period Barbizon work that is monogram signed lower left. The frame has an old plaque reading “21”- this suggests the work was part of an exhibition back in the day. Size- 15.75 by 22.5 inches approx including frame, canvas 7 by 14 inches approx. Medium- Oil on canvas. Frame- Antique wooden frame, some knocks and losses, offered free with the painting. Condition- We would be very happy to hang this one as found. There is however a good deal of varnish browning and some old restoration to the sky. This listing is for the Exceptional Antique 19th C. French Parisian Academic Nude Male Painting pictured above. A beautiful circa 1885 French School nude male portrait. This exceptional work depicts a nude man with a beard and mustache standing with his legs together and arms crossed. He wears cloth underwear. The artist set the man against a loosely painted brown oval background. The work is likely by the hand of an artist working in Paris in the 1880s, and the subject was likely a model for a group of artists at a studio. The back of the canvas is stamped with the canvas supplier – Jordany Aube. This stamp was used by the supplier exclusively between 1883 and 1889. The work is an oil on canvas and appears unsigned. 24 inches tall by 18 inches wide (painting). 30.25 inches tall by 24.75 inches wide (frame). Condition : Good overall antique condition. Scattered inpainting (refer to photo under blacklight). Some losses to the frame along with typical wear/scratches. It is ready to be displayed and enjoyed!
