Authentic 17/18 Century Cusco/Cuzco Art Oil Painting on Canvas of Mary and Jesus
The Cuzco art relates to the Spanish after they conquered Peru in the 16th century and continued until the mid 19th century transforming the Incas painting into the Cuzco school. Most paintings have religious subjects such as Mary and Jesus, painted by unknown artists, not signed and they were displayed in churches. Eventually, by the end of the 18th century they became a trend which grew with many paintings in the same style even today to commercialize them. This specific piece for sale is an original Cuzco painting dating back to 17the maybe early 18th century. The edges were replaced in order to attach the painting to a new stretcher. My guess is that the edges were very worn and not able to allow the re-stretching. The new canvas used for the edges can be seen in the attached pictures and was professionally sewn to the original painting. This allowed to keep the authenticity of the piece while being properly re-stretched. The painting itself is beautiful with Virgin Mary and Jesus dressed with heavily decorated clothes and vivid colors, an aura above their heads in a mestizo baroque style. Look at the painting carefully and you can see “emeralds” on their clothing which from a certain angle look like real stones. Heavily decorated pieces are rare! It does have craquelures mostly at the top but some across the painting, it has been professionally repaired (see pictures with and without UV). There are about 20+ small chips varying in size from 1mm to maybe 3 mm. A couple of them are a bit larger as they result from the age of the painting. The frame is magnificent, made specially for this painting with mirrors and carved wood around. I would say that both the restretching and the new frame go back to the 1980’s. The painting measures 42″ X 30″ framed with a view of 32″ X 20″.

To me it looks like a younger Robert E Lee -I cant find a signature but I know this is done by someone very very talented back in the day – See pictures -Item is large it is approx. 20 inches X 16 inches. What’s wrong with it? Painting is old and paint is crackling some very minor paint lose see pics painting needs a good cleaning some ugg on the painting as well see all pics for complete detail of condition.

Spanish colonial art includes paintings, sculptures and attractive objects manufacture across one and a half continents, from Mexico down to South America, over a period of about 330 years. The Spanish colonial period ends around 1820, when Spain began to lose its influence on its colonies in the New World and independence was won by many of today’s Latin American nations. There were some artistic focus regarding Spanish colonial art among the different viceroyalties. Michael led his forces against Lucifer and historically, armies have considered him a warrior patron invoking him before battle. Countless cities and towns all over the world have been named in his honor. Archangel Gabriel is the bringer of news or messages from God-his most important message was that of redemption through the birth and death of His son. And Archangel Raphael is the healer of God’s people. Jehudiel is the protector of those who work in positions of power such as kings, judges, and other leaders. In the present work, the Andean artist has illustrated this powerful archangel with great delicacy. The details of his vestments are laboriously rendered; his grace is subtle endowing him with a heavenly countenance. Our exquisite Archangel Saint Michael from the late 17th century stands full-length looking directly to the viewer. He, wearing his typical drappery and armor, sits on a landscape full of vegetation typical of South America and iconographically leaves us a message behind the portrait that stands on his right side: there is a small Archangel Saint Michael (himself) defeating the devil which is the most typical subject in which he was involved, among European and Spanish colonial artworks. Vintage Mid Century Modern Portrait Painting of Gentleman by Yasuo. The painting is an original oil on canvas that measures 18 inches x 24 inches x 1 inch. The painting does have some flaking, which can be seen in the photos. It is signed “Yasuo” in the bottom right corner. His style changed over the years. If he painted this, it would have most likely been in the 1940’s or 1950’s. I’m not attributing the painting to him, but he is the predominant “Yasuo” that turns up in internet research. There are a couple of “P 12″ stamps on the strainer and a small stamp that kind of resembles a Phoenix, but I can’t make out the words. I was told this portrait could have a connection to the Lamon family of Knoxville, Tennessee, that started Laymon Jewelers, but I have not been able to confirm this. It came from an antique dealer who acquired it in Knoxville, most likely from an estate sale. This is all of the information I have on it. It would benefit from a cleaning and/or restoration. Antique Mid Century Impressionist Nude Woman Oil Painting N. Scott Jones
This is a well done and evocative Antique Mid Century Impressionist Nude Woman Oil Painting on canvas, by early Southern California artist N. This work approximately dates to the 1940’s, and depicts a reclining nude brunette woman on a red blanket. She faces away from the viewer, while her bare back and buttocks are visible. This is a lovely example of late American Impressionism, and would fit right in with the early French Impressionists of the late 19th century in terms of style and composition. Scott Jones in the lower right of the canvas. Not much is known about this artist, but perhaps you know more about them or their work. I also have another original artwork by N. Scott Jones available in my listings. Approximately 25 x 36 inches. Good condition for age, with light edge wear and a few light scratches and dimples to the canvas please see photos. An old exhibition label on the verso reads: Fourteenth Annual Emily Lowe Competition. Art Project of the Joe & Emily Lowe Foundation. From this information, this work appears to have been exhibited in the 1950’s, but my personal experience leads me to believe this painting was likely created a decade earlier, based on the canvas, stretcher, and composition of this piece.
