Frank Girardin was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1856. He studied art in Cincinnati under Frank Noble and later with Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy. Girardin was known primarily for his landscapes and unique use of color. He spent the first part of his career in Richmond, Indiana between 1880 and 1910, and was the director of the Richmond Art Association. Eventually Girardin moved to California, living in Los Angeles first, and then settling in Redondo Beach in 1920. He died in Redondo Beach in 1945. Some of his paintings are exhibited in the San Diego Art Museum, Richmond Art Museum & many others. This is a lovely Oil on Canvas by Frank Girardin. The scene reflects Bridalveil Fall which is one of the most prominent waterfalls in the Yosemite Valley in California. Ahwahneechee tribe believed that Bridalveil Fall was home to a vengeful spirit named Pohono which guarded the entrance to the valley, and that those leaving the valley must not look directly into the waterfall lest they be cursed. ERIC DOERINGER Original 2005 Acrylic/Collage on Canvas. This is an original acrylic and collage on canvas painting by contemporary artist ERIC DOERINGER American, b. An artist who describes himself as making paintings in batches, Eric Doeringer says that his creative process is like an assembly line. He openly copies works by famous artists such as Richard Prince and Lisa Yuskavage. Sometimes he is cited for vending without a license and suspects that the police are called by angry gallery owners. One of these gallery owners describes Doeringer as a bootlegger and opportunist, seeking his 15 minutes of fame. Eric Doeringer was born in Cambridge, MA and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He received a BA in Visual Art from Brown University and an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Doeringer has had solo exhibitions at {CTS} Creative Thriftshop (NY), Apex Art (NY), Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects (Toronto, Canada), and Another Year In LA (CA). Doeringer has exhibited in group shows at venues including MUSAC (Spain), The Currier Musuem (NH), The Bruce Museum (CT), Albright College (PA), and Muhlenberg College (PA). Doeringer also curated “The Matthew Barney Show”, an exhibition of Matthew Barney fan art and ephemera, at Jack the Pelican (NY) and boca (San Francisco). In 2007, Doeringer received a production grant from the Whitney Museum’s IPO program. This original acrylic and collage on canvas is from the Bootlegger Series (after John Currin), and is stamped on the stretchers verso with the artist’s signature and date: “Eric Doeringer”.
