Frederick D. Williams (1829-1915) Tonalist Landscape with Horse 1863 Oil on Canvas
This beautiful scene depicts a country road scene lined with trees and fences. A gentleman aboard his horse leans down to talk to a lady on the path. The sun shines behind the trees. Williams signed and dated the piece F. Williams 1863 in the lower left corner. Frederick Dickinson Williams was a portrait and landscape artist. He studied at Harvard in 1850. Upon graduating, Williams taught drawing in Boston public schools for 20+ years. He exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum as well as at the National Academy of Design and the Boston Art Club. Sometime in the 1870s he went to Paris for further study and exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1878. Size: Frame measures 37 by 27.5. The painting itself measures 30 by 20. Overall surface grime and craquelure. Small losses to paint scattered throughout and one or two probable repaired small tears as pictured. Some minor losses/wear to frame as pictured. Antique FEDERAL Southern GENTLEMAN Plantation Owner Oil PORTRAIT Painting c1850s
Here is a antique oil on canvas of a Southern Plantation owner. The previous owner of this art said he came out of a Plantation they bought in South Carolina. No one seemed to know who he was though. So a mystery man. He does look a bit dark and broody doesn’t he? It is a old canvas that has been affixed to a newer canvas during a previous restoration. The restoration was poorly done in many spots, lots of over-painting a few patched repaired spots, and some crazing. There is a crack in the paint at his temple. Wear to the finish, etc. The frame is a very large heavy carved wood frame that looks to have been lemon gilt gold that was then painted with plain gold paint over that. Please enlarge all pictures to see if condition suits you. It measures 24 x 30 1/4 in. Canvas alone and 31 1/8 x 37 1/4 in. I would date this painting to the 1840-50s time period. Antique 16C-17C Giant Baroque Portrait Oil on Canvas ing receives a Messenger
Painting is for sale WITHOUT FRAME!! This Giant Portrait was acquired in the old castle of the 17th century “Häringe slott” (Södermanland). The painting depicts a scenic scene, The king receives a messenger with the news… A beautiful piece from the early Baroque period, preserved in good condition and ready to decorate your interior! Provenance: Sweden / “Häringe slott”. Creation period: Late 16th – early 17th Century. Motive and style: Baroque. Technique (creation media): Oil painting on canvas. Good condition, Unframed, wear, repairs, retouches, cleaning, conservation. Size in centimeters (metric): 205 x 114 cm. Measurements in inches (roughly): 80,7 x 44,9 in. Gross weight /dimensional: 12 kg. In its modern form “Häringe slott” was built in the 1650s and was completed in 1657, but there are older ancestors. The early Iron Age cemetery is located in the forest south of the castle, and the castles runway contains a rune stone, runic inscriptions of Sodermanland 239. According to the legend, this is the site of the Battle of Sotasar against Sote 1007 Vikings in Snorra Sturlasson in the Olav saga. In 1502, Haring was burned by the Danish king Hans and his servants. In 1625, when Gustav II Adolf transferred this castle to his field marshal Gustaf Horn. On the foundation of the old wooden castle 1650s Gustaf Horn built the current castle. After the death of Gustaf Horn in 1657, the castle inherited their daughter Agneta. When attacked in 1681, Cronan captured the Häringe, but was expelled after his release by Agnetas son, Gustav Kruus, along with Klas Fleming and Fabian Wrede. In 1769, the castle was bought by Major General Fabian Leven and became their residence. A number of countries have partially closed their borders to passenger traffic, which means that a large portion of the air traffic has been stopped. This is giving rise to restrictions in transport capacity, and thus problems transporting parcels and letters to large parts of the world.
