Original Acrylic Air Brush On Canvas Painting Pain And Waiting By Wajih Nahle
ORIGINAL ACRYLIC AIR BRUSH ON CANVAS PAINTING “PAIN AND WAITING”. BY WAJIH NAHLE CREATED IN 1989 IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, USA. “PAIN AND WAITING” IS ABOUT LEBANON, THE MIDDLE EAST OR ANY COUNTRY EMBROILED IN CONSTANT PROLONGED WARS. ITS BLACK/BLUE BACKGROUND AND THE COLORS OF THE OUTER SILHOUETTES PORTRAY PESSIMISM AND DARKNESS. THE CROUCHING FIGURE IS “PAIN” AND THE STANDING FIGURE IS “WAITING”. YET WITH ALL THE ANXIETY THIS WORK PROJECTS, THERE ARE RAYS OF HOPE IN THE FORM OF WHITE BRUSH-STROKES PORTRAYING REDEMPTION, OPTIMISM AND THE TRIUMPH OF PATIENCE BOTH INSIDE OF THE PAIN AND INSIDE OF THE WAITING. THIS ART DESCRIBES THE POLARITY OF EXISTENCE, PESSIMISM VS OPTIMISM AND THE BATTLE BETWEEN DARKNESS AND LIGHT. NAHLE NAMED THIS PIECE OF ART IN ARABIC, CALLING IT “ALAM WA INTIZAR”. “ALAM” IS “PAIN” AND “INTIZAR” IS “WAITING”, AND “WA” IS “AND”. NAHLE PAINTED THIS BEAUTIFUL WORK IN OCTOBER 1989 WHILE IN L. AWAITING THE CESSATION OF THE BLOODY WARFARE GRIPPING HIS NATION, LEBANON. HE WAS IN L. A IN PAIN FOR HIS COUNTRY AND WAITING FOR SOME PEACE SO HE CAN TRAVEL BACK TO HIS FAMILY AND HIS HOME COUNTRY. BUT IT IS TIME TO LET “ALAM WA INTIZAR” BE ENJOYED BY OTHERS. THIS WORK IS RARE AND MUCH DIFFERENT FROM MR. NAHLE’S CALLIGRAPHY ART AND HIS LATER MOVEMENT AND LIGHT THEMES. NAHLE PASSED AWAY IN FEBRUARY 2017 AT THE AGE OF 85 IN LEBANON. Wajih Nahle, a painter and artist, always stood with a smile on his face, waiting for peoples curious question on his works. He spent his life painting, drawing around 10,000 paintings in 60 years. Mourning the great artist, Lebanese Culture Minister Ghattas Khouri said: With the death of the artist Wajih Nahle, the Lebanese art scene has lost one of its most eminent artists, who played a remarkable role in promoting visual arts in the country. Nahles paintbrush led to great achievements, opened new perspectives, and brought Nahle an international reputation, which has attracted people from Lebanon and the world to admire his works, he added. The Syndicate of Professional Artists in Lebanon also mourned Nahle and considered him one of its most prominent members in the painting field, and an exceptional seeker of excellence and uniqueness.
