Rare Street Scene of probably Holland see windmill in background, this oil is clearly signed in lower right corner and also has old metal label at bottom center. Total framed measurements are 17 x 15 inches, and canvas itself measures 8 x 10 inches. Canvas is in good strong, tight physical condition with no tears or repairs but could use a cleaning as pictured. Colors are bright but would really pop if you choose to clean. Old wood gilded and leafy frame, once gorgeous, has experienced many areas of loss as shown, but holds tight. While in Boston studying at the Lowell Institute and the Museum School of Fine Arts, he first did still-life paintings and then crayon portraits, finally turning to portraits in oil, for which he became famous. He also did a large number of landscapes in both oil and watercolor. The subjects range from New Hampshire’s White Mountains to coastal scenes. He started restoring old pictures as an avocation and became an authority in the field. Burdick’s paintings hang in many public buildings and his articles on art have been printed in various art journals. As the oldest living member of the Boston Art Club, he was honored by the group when his portrait of then President Coolidge was placed on exhibition at the Club in 1927. Burdick was a contemporary of numerous artists. The Boston Art Club members mentioned in Burdick’s private papers include: John Joseph Enneking, John R. Mystery Artist C. 16th Century Large Original Religious Work Antique
Any help identifying the hand that did this magnificent antique oil would be very much appreciated. We know nothing about this work other than it is obviously religious subject matter and it is very very very old. There is a very old canvas that the work is presumed to have been done on initially. It looks from the side that the old canvas was attached to a newer canvas. Presumably due to the fragile nature of the paint, the canvas was then mounted to board. We have tried to take pictures to help an educated eye appreciate the condition of the work. We can see that there have been paint repairs over the years, the oil has significant cracking and the varnish has yellowed. We showed this work to a collector friend and they told us they believe it is from c. 16th century, although he was not an expert and we certainly are not either. Please examine pictures closely yourself and draw your own conclusions. Please note that the colors and skin tones appears to us to be a bit more muted in person versus what shows in the pictures. This work will be perfect for 1 a preserver with the talent and means to bring it back to its glory (and likely make a fortune on it) or 2 someone that wants to wrap this beauty in an old gold frame, appreciate the imperfections as a true antique statement piece in that special room in their stately home. This is a very rare amazing find for the right person. We have not had this work appraised and we list it reluctantly. Gorgeous Antique 19th Century Victorian Still Life Oil Painting Flowers Mystery
Here’s an Interesting Antique Oil Painting of Flowers. Its unsigned as far as I can see. Condition is good – there may be a few very small spot touch ups (see the dull circular spots in picture 4).
