Lovely Portrait of a Girl c. 1700s 18th Century Original Oil Painting
Welcome to Latelier Salon Art Gallery. Oil on canvas in a period giltwood frame. This beautiful portrait is a sophisticated and talented work, endearing in the frank gaze of the sitter, and technically accomplished… Most notably in the skin tones and the very painterly loose treatment of the hair. Byng, who was noted for his portraits of children, has depicted the attractive sitter with great charm. ROBERT BYNG (1666 – 1720) was born in Wiltshire, but is buried in Oxford where he died in 1720, having lived there since before 1714. He was a pupil of, and very strongly influenced by, Sir Godfrey Kneller (Principal Painter to the King and the most distinguished Baroque portraitist in England). Byng’s earliest dated portraits are c. 1697; one of his younger brothers, Edward, was drapery painter to Kneller and his principal assistant. SIZE: 39 x 34 including the frame. PROVENANCE: By descent in a private collection, Buckinghamshire; latterly stored in an attic for many years. Height = 99 cm (39). Width = 86 cm (34). Depth = 6 cm (3). She is sitting next to a sheep with one hand on the sheeps head and the other holding her crook. The portrait appears to be unsigned and is an oil on canvas. Description: Outstanding large oil on canvas, British, 18. Century frame with Aitken Dott, Edinburgh label. Dimensions: 57 1/2 inches high by 48 inches wide. Provenance: Northeast Auctions, Portsmouth. I live about 25 minutes northwest of Springfield, MA. About two hours from Boston and three hours from New York City. You can contact them at. I have wo rked with them extensively and they are excellent. Please check them out. Aitken Dott (1815-92) set up in business in Edinburgh in 1842. He was recorded in 1851 as a master carver and gilder employing six men. This listing is for the Huge Antique 18th C. Portrait of a Noble Lady in a Courtyard pictured above. A beautiful, stately English School portrait of a noble lady in a courtyard, dating to the first half of the 18th century. This wonderful portrait depicts a young lady in an elaborate, vivid red dress with white lace accents. She carefully holds up her dress in her left hand and gestures with her right. She stands in an open courtyard with a short staircase visible in the background, which also includes numerous clusters of trees. The work is an oil on canvas and appears to be unsigned. It is housed in a wood frame. There is an older label from the 20th century on the reverse that is inscribed Mrs Bardsley, which may refer to either the sitter or a previous owner. Brown and Merry – Tring, UK (1994). Private Collection – PA. 47.5 inches tall by 39.875 inches wide (painting). 50.75 inches tall by 43.5 inches wide (frame). Condition : Good overall antique condition. Professionally conserved and relined on new stretcher. Scattered minor surface abrasions. Inpainting is difficult to detect under uv light (Ive included a photo of her face under uv light for reference). Scattered wear and losses to the frame. It is ready to be displayed and enjoyed! This listing is for the 18th Century Italian Old Master Landscape Painting pictured above. This original 18th century work depicts a group of classical monuments and buildings surrounded by foliage, animals, and a figure. A body of water and mountains can be seen in the distance in the far left. Among the animals are sheep, cattle, and goats. The painting is an oil on canvas and measures about 22.75 inches wide by 16.25 inches tall. It is framed, measuring 26.75 inches wide by 20.25 inches tall. I did not see any signatures or markings. Areas of restoration typical for its age. A few spots of in-painting, including on the monument on the right side, above/left of the figure, and some areas in the sky/along the edges of the painting.
