1916 Original lost Antique Oil on Board, Signed Picasso
1916 Original lost Antique Oil on Board, Signed Picasso. This 1916 dated and original signature Picasso is on the reverse, we turned it around in the frame, but originally someone named Jean Slotnick 1938, painted a painting on the back, we believe to hid this original Picasso from seizure by the Nazi Army in 1938. The board is consistent with 1916 canvas board. This is not the first flip around work we have found in this collection and further research indicates that the Whitings knew several Jewish families from Europe. We are Pioneer Heroes Museum, of Casa Grande, Arizona. We are liquidating one of the most unique collections of late 19th, early 20th century art that has ever been found, in our opinion. Contained in two large cases, or trunks, this collection is made up of some of the most interesting and artistically significant pieces of art that we believe has been found in recent times. Other pieces are going to us on consignment for sale, or shown in our Museum gallery. By doing so, we hope to raise funds for the supply of our publically supported museum for six months. Most of the paintings seem to be signed Picasso or Vincent. We are liquidating the George Bernard Washington Whiting, Floyd Franklin Smith collection of interwar art from France. For those of you that are not familiar with our gallery and this collection, we’ve been liquidating pieces from this collection for several months, there are several Picasso’s, and other famous artists in this collection, all of which was found in two trunks in the storage area of a northern Arizona home. The Whitings settled in northern Arizona after World War II. Floyd Franklin Smith and the Whitings traveled extensively to Europe, and collected art from famous artists, and some not so famous, and brought them home on the rail line to northern Arizona. This outstanding antique, all original oil on canvas board, dated 1916 Picasso, has very old varnish, cracking, and was clearly turned around in the 1938 era frame, to hid it. It is beautifully painted by an expressive and skilled artist, rather than artwork resembling a common icon. Measures 15″ tall, 11.5″ wide, and the outer dimension of the frame are 17″ x 20.5″. The frame is modern, with an appropriate antiquated finish. Overall, the painting presents well, and is in good condition. The canvas has been laid down to a board, and there is some restoration to the upper proper right corner (as shown). Antique Painting BULLDOG Large Original Oil on Canvas Vintage Bull Dog Portrait
Very Nice Antique Oil Painting. Shows a sad looking dog with his head & one front leg tied up in bandages. I believe that it’s a bulldog perhaps a Bullmastiff or Old English Bulldog.. Its a very unique piece of art with great subject matter. I’ve seen many lesser quality pieces from the same era, sell for much higher than my asking price on this painting. Estimated Age: Late 1800’s – Early 1900’s. Canvas Size: 20″ x 28″. Framed Size: 27.25″ x 35.25″. The painting is artist signed. There is a plaque attached to the frame, attributing the painting to an artist named “Jose Vila” from Spain. Please refer to photos. In my personal opinion, the painting is in Very Good overall condition, considering it’s age. It does show some normal wear which should be expected on a piece of this age light scuffs, scratches, dings, discoloration, fading, etc.. Antique 1907 original realistic LM fall river landscape oil painting on canvas
Up for sale is a very nice quality antique original fall landscape oil painting on canvas. It is signed on the bottom right “LM” and dated on the back 1907. It’s painted with a realistic approach and very rich color. The frame that the stretcher is set in is modern wooden frame with an antique look. It’s in nice condition and measures 9 1/4 inches by 7 1/2 inches framed. The stretcher alone measures 8 inches by 6 1/8 inches. Large 18th Cent OLD MASTER ANTIQUE ORIGINAL Oil on Burlap RELIGIOUS SCENE FRAMED
18th Century (possibly earlier) Original Oil on Canvas, mounted to a board, in the style of the Old Masters, especially those of the 17th and 18th C. “Old Master” (or “old master”) refers to any painter of skill who worked in Europe before about 1800. This piece depicts a group of European religious figures, at left, kneeling and in deep prayer before an altar/niche with a painting – presumably of Jesus of Nazareth. We would say this is a’dark’ painting so most bright spots were caused by lighting and well applied varnish, yet the piece has a luminous quality to it. There are small areas of craquelure (network of fine cracks in the paint or varnish) but the canvas and paint are stable. The piece is not signed, though there may be more info behind backboard – we did not open it. 3 1/2 Wide Dark Wood reverse frame w/ carved gold decoration around is included complementary in this Listing. Canvas measures 31 1/2 X 41 1/2 and is in Good to Very Good Antique condition, with minor paint abrasion near edges and corners. Frame and artwork weigh over 25 lbs. Antique Small Mother & Child Portrait Original Oil Painting on Paper 8×6 Old. This work is unsigned. I never checked the back of it. It is a mystery artist. Original frame needs to be repaired. It has multiple decorative pieces missing. Two top corners are chipped on the frame. One large chunk is missing on the side. There are many cracks on the frame as shown in the pictures. Painting itself is in very nice condition. It seems its done on heavy paper. It is nice work, however the details are not very refined. Please refer to pictures for measurements and details.
