Beautiful Painting by the very Listed American Artist Frederick Judd Waug. A Major American Artist… A noted seascape painter especially of surf churning against white froth on seaside rocks, Frederick Judd Waugh strove to convey the powerful movement of the water and the smell of the brine. He was also an illustrator, a writer of children’s books, a bookplate designer, a designer of silver and copper objects, and a camouflage artist during World War I. He was born in Bordentown, New Jersey, and was the only child of painter Samuel Bell Waugh by his second wife, Mary Eliza Young, who was a miniature painter. He grew up in the atmosphere of the studio, and both he and his half sister, Ida, became painters. He was trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1880 to 1883 and studied with Thomas Eakins. He continued his studies at the Academie Julian in Paris and exhibited at the Paris Salon. In 1892, he married Clara Eugenie Bunn, whom he had met at the Pennsylvania Academy, and in that same year, they began a fifteen-year sojourn in Europe. They lived primarily in London from where he did many paintings of the Channel Island of Sark and at St Ives, Cornwell. Ironically, these paintings became an instant success in America. In 1929, he won the Palmer Memorial Marine Prize of the National Academy of Design. He was also a skilled architect and designed the Episcopal church of St. Mary’s of the Harbor at Provincetown, Massachusetts. The Sea Churning and Rocks and light he is so famous for is here in. Big, Beautiful Oil on canvas Art Painting by the highly listed artist: Larry Prellop. Not a print, original oil. Measures 44″ long by 33″ high overall with the canvas being 36″ long by 24″ high. The painting is in fine condition with no issues. The frame has some separation at one corner (see photo). Larry Prellop was born and raised in Austin. His parents owned property on Lake Travis, where the youngster began his love of water. As a teenager, Prellop attended school, went to work, and then spent his evenings painting while he watched television. Original Oil on Canvas Seascape. American Artist – c 1833 – 1905. Oil painting measures approximately 15 1/2″ by 8 5/8″. Original, period frame measures approximately 22 1/2″ wide x 16″ high. Professionally appraised July 2014 by a Nationally Certified Appraiser. The painting is fully guaranteed to be by the hand of William Trost Richards. And will come with the notebook of information compiled by at the Nationally Certified Art Appraiser. Professionally cleaned and the paper backing has been replaced. Some photos show the back of the frame before new backing was applied; many original, old markings and labels… Which are still there. Original canvas was once partially detached and slightly bent at lower right. It has been professionally re-attached to the frame, but NOT repaired to retain the integrity of the original piece.
