Frame Included: Yes by the way it’s a double frame folks! . ONLY the dark blue butterflies is for sale in this listing! “Hunt Slonem” Biography: Inspired by nature and his 60 pet birds, Hunt Slonem is renowned for his distinct neo-expressionist style. He is best known for his series of bunnies, butterflies and tropical birds, as well as his large-scale sculptures and restorations of forgotten historic homes. Slonem’s works can be found in the permanent collections of 250 museums around the world, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Whitney, the Miro Foundation and the New Orleans Museum of Art Since his first solo show at the Fischbach Gallery in 1977, Slonem’s work has been showcased internationally hundreds of times, most recently at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the State Russian Museum in St. In 2017 and 2018, he will be featured by the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Gallery in Bulgaria, and in countless galleries across the United States, Germany and Dubai. His flair and admiration for far-flung destinations has been a staple of his life since childhood. He would continue to seek out travel opportunities throughout his young-adult years, studying abroad in Nicaragua and Mexico; these eye-opening experiences imbued him with an appreciation for tropical landscapes that would influence his unique style. After graduating with a degree in painting and art history from Tulane University in New Orleans, Slonem spent several years in the early 1970s living in Manhattan. It wasn’t until Janet Fish offered him her studio for the summer of 1975 that Slonem was able to fully immerse himself in his work. His pieces began getting exhibited around New York, propelling his reputation and thrusting him into the city’s explosive contemporary arts scene. He received several prestigious grants, including from Montreal’s Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Cultural Counsel Foundation’s Artist Project, for which he painted an 80-foot mural of the World Trade Center in the late 1970s. He also received an introduction to the Marlborough Gallery, which would represent him for 18 years. As Slonem honed his aesthetic, his work began appearing in unique, contextual spaces. By 1995 he finished a massive six-by-86-foot mural of birds, which shoots across the walls of the Bryant Park Grill Restaurant in New York City. His charity work has resulted dozens of partnerships, including a wallpaper of his famous bunnies designed specifically with Lee Jofa for the Ronald McDonald House in Long Island. Slonem continues to draw great inspiration from history, forging palpable connections to the past through his art. His popular portraits of Abraham Lincoln reframe the historic figure as a pop-art icon, and he is currently working on a nine-foot-tall bronze sculpture of French explorer Robert De La Salle, to be displayed publicly in Louisiana. Yet Slonem’s most ambitious project has been his mission to save America’s often forgotten historic buildings. Realizing too many of the country’s architectural gems have fallen into disrepair, Slonem has found himself drawn to these national landmarks, inspired by the depth of their age and old-world beauty. Among his accomplishments are the restorations of Cordt’s Mansion in Kingston, New York; the Lakeside and Albania plantations of Louisiana; and the Scranton Armory and Charles Sumner Woolworth’s mansion in Scranton, Pennsylvania. His sixth and latest endeavor is Belle Terre, a storied property in South Kortright, New York. Numerous books and monographs have chronicled Slonem’s art, including Bunnies Glitterari Inc. 2014, Birds Glitterati Inc. 2017 and Hunt Slonem: An Art Rich and Strange Harry N. His studios and homes have been profiled in such books as When Art Meets Design (Assouline Publishing, 2014) and Pleasure Palaces: The Art and Homes of Hunt Slonem (powerHouse Books, 2007), among others. His latest will be Gatekeeper (Assouline Publishing), showcasing his reclamation of the Scranton Armory, and its transition from arms to art. Wai Ming (Chinese American, 1938) Original Oil Painting Girls and Sea Signed
Wai Ming (Chinese American, 1938 -). “Girls and Sea” Original Oil Painting. Wai Ming is the professional artist moniker of Hing Kwok, who was born in Canton, South China on November 11, 1938, the son of a school master with nine children. Extremely poor as a child, he was raised in Hong Kong enduring many hardships amidst a chaotic environment of war and refugee settlements. Despite the focus on practical matters from such a state of affairs, Wai Ming’s love for art flourished and he developed his drawing techniques without any art education, just painting what he saw. In the 1960s, Ming found representation in Hong Kong and also took the unusual step of opening his own gallery to display his work in. His primary interest being to capture images of life in fishing villages, or’fish-folk’, who have retained traditional Chinese culture, his work was at home with the sensibilities of many art buyers in Hong Kong, and so was able to find some initial success. Crossing the ocean in his mid-30s, Wai Ming arrived in San Francisco from Hong Kong in 1974. There, he experienced initial resistance from galleries and the official art world for a variety of reasons, but was ultimately embraced by dealer Jack Swanson only five months after his arrival. Since then, not only has the demand for his work grown steadily, but he is acknowledged by many as one of the Bay Area’s leading artist. Though self-taught, Wai Ming paints with a rare professionalism which makes an important social statement, and with enough diversity of style to escape pigeon-holing his talent. His original oil paintings and fine art reproductions are admired and collected by people throughout the world. The painting signed lower left. Measurements: It is approx. 17 1/2″ x 23 1/2″ (45 cm x 61 cm) sight (exposed image). 23 1/2″ x 29 1/2″ (61 cm x 76 cm) with frame. Condition: The painting is in good condition. Bob Ross Mountain Waterfall Signed Original Painting Contemporary Art
Artist: Bob Ross Title: Mountain Waterfall Medium: Original Oil on Canvas Painting Size: 24″x 18″ Year: Circa 1980 Condition: Damage to right side, including missing paint Documentation: Includes a Certificate of Authenticity from Bob Ross, Inc. Mountain Waterfall is one of Bob Ross most iconic and recognizable images. Variations of the image were featured several times on The Joy of Painting, including in Season 2, Episode 12 (1983) and Season 5, Episode 1 (1985). This imagery in this painting more closely resembles the Season 2 version with the waterfall framed by trees in the foreground with a mountain background in the distance. Although this image was featured in an episode of The Joy of Painting, please note that this is not the actual painting featured on the episode. This particular rendition of Mountain Waterfalls contains several unique characteristics, including the pink hued sky and mountains, as well as the orientation this painting is a vertical 24 x 18 as opposed to the horizontal 18 x 24 in the episode. While we do not know the precise year this piece was painted, Bob Ross Inc. Estimates it was created circa 1980. Bob Ross Mountain Waterfall contains damage to the right side, including missing paint. The piece is signed by the artist and comes with a certificate of authenticity from Bob Ross, Inc. Having spent his entire artistic career in front of the TV camera shooting The Joy of Painting, Bob Ross was one of the greatest advocates for painting in the late 20th century. Known as a painter of uniquely soothing voice, who always painted happy images, he was watched by millions and eventually reached the status of a living icon. In 1981, he abandoned the army to pursue painting. In the early years, he was struggling. This is when his signature perm was born, as a way of cutting haircut costs, a style he wore and hated throughout his life. Ross remained dedicated to landscape throughout his entire body of work, which counts around 30.000 paintings. His works are populated with trees, clouds, lakes and streams, and only an occasional cabin. Known as a sincere environmentalist, he often painted various small animals, bringing them often to the studio. Interestingly, very few of his works ever depicted a human figure. The technique he used is called wet on wet or Alla Prima, dating back to the Renaissance. Still, it was difficult to define Bob Ross style in terms of contemporary art. It was closest to Pop Art, due to his celebrity status and the concept in which it was created. Even today, more than twenty years after his death, he remains an Internet sensation. In 2015, over 400 episodes of his famous TV show The Joy of Painting were added to the official Bob Ross Youtube Channel. In 2016, his other painting television series Beauty is Everywhere began streaming on Netflix. Furthermore, numerous series have paid homage to Bob Ross in various ways, while Google keeps posting Google Doodle and birthday tributes to the painter every year. A calm, happy person, Bob Ross kept a democratic, open attitude, claiming that anyone can paint regardless of talent, only if they are ready to practice enough. We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents, he used to say. And the people loved him for it. Born as Robert Norman Ross in Daytona Beach, Florida on October 29, 1942, the meticulous painter died of lymphoma on July 4, 1995, at the age of 52. World’s Most Demanded Contemporary Artists. Donna painted and signed this work in 1998 for the famous Buffalo Bill Art Show in Cody, Wyoming, where she was the featured artist. The painting is called “Leading Horses to Water, ” and we bought it at the show. This is one of Donna’s larger works and measures 46 x 46 inches (117x117cm). It is surrounded by a 2inchwide black wooden frame made by a professional art gallery framer. See the photos above that show the painting displayed on a wall — a close-up and also in a room setting. Also shown is a close-up of her signature on the painting, and an autographed black-and-white photograph of the artist. Donna HowellSickles is an exceptional Western artist and her work is displayed in six American museums, including the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming, and the National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2007 she was inducted into that hall of fame in recognition of her artwork that celebrates the cowgirl. The artist works on paper and canvas in a mix of charcoal, pastel and acrylic, often leaving her under-drawing visible. Through her colorful, smiling cowgirls, she has created heroines out of common women. The color red is always present in her work, as it symbolizes life and energy to the artist. Horses often stand for an obstacle overcome as well as inner strength. Her art is in many private and corporate collections in the U. A coffee-table book showing her work, The Art of Donna Howell-Sickles, Cowgirl Rising , was published in 1997. Please remember that SIZE matters.
