ACRYLIC/MIXED MEDIA ON Board BY JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT 1983 UNTITLED Signed
It is re-listed here. The current provenance can only be traced from the gallery documentation on the back of the piece, the Basquiat estate authentication stamp, to the 2018 sale and and private collector. We are unable to trace this back any further. This estate’s stamp is signed and dated correctly as compared to other pieces of the time cf. Images From the 11/01 estate submission. This does not come with any additional accompanying paperwork as everything else, if there was any, was lost pre-estate sale. Unfortunately, the authentication committee of the estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat (JMB) disbanded in 2012. Additional Information: This is. The image depicts the iconic skull figure, crown, and NY SOS full of color and uninhibited feeling. A testament to the vibrancy and raw talent of Jean-Michel Basquiat. This piece is bold, strong and expressive, a highlight to any modern art collection. Overall framed piece measures 23.5″ x 28″. Paper label en verso reads “GALERIE CHALETTE” along with a New York address. Label lists the artist as “JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT”, title as “Untitled” and the medium as “Mixed Media”. Further information can be found on the Smithsonian’s documentation on the American art Archive. INK STAMP en verso reads “THE ESTATE OF JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT” and bears the signature reading “Gerald Basquiat” in line with the G. Basquiat authentication services provided at the time. There is some damage/age to the paper label en verso and some minor chipping along the edges of the frame. Basquiat used social commentary in his paintings as a tool for introspection and for identifying with his experiences in the black community of his time, as well as attacks on power structures and systems of racism. Basquiat’s visual poetics were acutely political and direct in their criticism of colonialism and support for class struggle. He died of a heroin overdose at his art studio at the age of 27. Basquiat’s art has inspired many in the hip hop music community such as Jay-Z. Large MCM Hollywood Regency 1970’s Floral Painting by Lee Reynolds Signed
Signed in lower right corner Reynolds. Very nice condition, ready to hang and enjoy. All reasonable offers will be considered and answered. Lee Reynolds Burr (19362017) opened his Vanguard Studios in Beverly Hills, California, in 1964 to make oil paintings an attainable decoration for any American household. With seascapes, nautical scenes, still lifes, bullfights, cowboys, pastoral views, hot-air balloons, horse races and abstractions, there was a Vanguard Studios creation to match any taste and interior. Born in Los Angeles, Burr studied art at the University of Southern California. After graduating and a stint in the U. Army, he worked in a local studio as a painter before becoming a home decor entrepreneur with financial support from his mother. These paintings regularly mirrored art-world trends, such as the Abstract Expressionism of the 1960s, but at prices that were much more affordable than fine art. Burr would start East Park Gallery in 1981 and continue to produce works in a more contemporary style until his retirement in 1998. Antique 1800’s original oil painting winter landscape river on canvas framed
Up for sale is a wonderful original 19th century oil painting winter landscape. It’s beautifully painted on stretched canvas with rich color and has an exquisite composition. The painting depicts a foliated snow filled landscape with a river near a home running toward the foreground. It is set in a period gilt wooden frame and measures 20 inches by 12 inches framed. I see no signature. The frame is as found with some dirt and scuffs; the painting has recently been cleaned and varnished. You will note some dust in the details/texture of the brushwork. Early 20th C Tonalist Oil Painting of a Harbor
This painting is an oil on canvas depiction of a harbor. The full moon has broken through the clouds filtering the light over the horizon. The anchored ships and structures provide silhouettes against the filtered moonlight creating a handsome tonal composition. The canvas would seem to be from the first quarter of the 20th c and is unsigned. The canvas measures 8 by 10 to sight and 14 by 16 in the gilt, wood, composition cove frame. The paint surface is in a particularly good and stable condition. The frame shows some minor losses and some slight areas of discoloration to the inner liner which are consistent with age and use.
