19th Century (1853 year) Oval Portrait of Lady, signed William Mason. Medium: oil on canvas. Size: 36 x 29. Frame size: 45″ x 38″. Subject: Wonderful portrait of a woman wearing a cross around her neck. Framed in beautiful ornate oval frame. Mason was known for his portraitures of famous, noble people; this might be someone of important stature. The quality of the paint is very fine and the details are of high academic excellence. The light around her face is beautifully done, as well as the fine work done of the pearls around her wrist. Signed on the lower right of canvas. Original date of creation is 1853. Condition: Has small damage in paint on the far right of canvas, very minor though. Has little craquelure from age, other than this it is in good condition. When one artist defines himself as high school drop-out, surf bum, and a lost boy who discovered clay his art couldnt be anything less than charming and honest. First employed art just to help him pacify his overactive mind, but then he fell in love and decided to dedicate his whole life to it. Born in 1960 in Sheffield, England, David Bromley immigrated to Australia with his family in 1964 and emerged as a painter in the mid 1980s. Since then, he has become one of the most recognisable and innovative artists in Australia. Over the past 20 years David’s work has fostered widespread acclaim and notoriety in Australia and internationally. He has exhibited on nearly every continent including Asia, Europe, Africa and America. In his practice, David has developed distinct themes and unique styles of painting; his best known are the nude female portraits and childrens series, but he often explores with various mediums and imagery that portray a certain whimsy. However diverse in his subject matter, David’s work is enduringly figurative, daringly coloured and executed with a graphic intention that is striking and memorable. Davids practice has extended to significant work in sculpture, creating in both bronze and resin to bring to life the characters imbued within his paintings. His work, both in painting and sculpture have become cornerstone pieces for several of the key interior projects undertaken by Bromley & Co in recent years. Mid Century Abstract Cubism Oil Painting Mystery Artist Kazimir Malevich Style
Mid century modern c1930s-1950s original oil painting. Depicts an eye catching abstract Cubist composition of colorful geometric shapes and lines within a circle encompassed by a canvas of black paint. Very well done with clean lines and nice detail; shows nice use of color and capture of light and shadow. Medium is oil on canvas done in an abstract Cubist style. Canvas affixed to stretcher with nails as opposed to staples. No signature that I can note but done in the manner of Russian painter Kazimir Malevich; worthy of further research. In Good overall condition. Exhibits moderate wear and soiling. No holes, rips or tears. Canvas remains tight and taught. Reverse side shows bleeding and staining from the color on the front.
