This listing is for the Exceptional Antique 19th C. French Parisian Academic Nude Male Painting pictured above. A beautiful circa 1885 French School nude male portrait. This exceptional work depicts a nude man with a beard and mustache standing with his legs together and arms crossed. He wears cloth underwear. The artist set the man against a loosely painted brown oval background. The work is likely by the hand of an artist working in Paris in the 1880s, and the subject was likely a model for a group of artists at a studio. The back of the canvas is stamped with the canvas supplier – Jordany Aube. This stamp was used by the supplier exclusively between 1883 and 1889. The work is an oil on canvas and appears unsigned. 24 inches tall by 18 inches wide (painting). 30.25 inches tall by 24.75 inches wide (frame). Condition : Good overall antique condition. Scattered inpainting (refer to photo under blacklight). Some losses to the frame along with typical wear/scratches. It is ready to be displayed and enjoyed! Here we have a charming portrait of a chihuahua the painting is in excellent condition it has been cleaned and re-housed in a later bespoke frame with soft gold insert. The painting has been well executed the little dog (MITTSI) is seated on an upholstered stool the features of the dog are perfect and the artist has captured a delightful sitter. The original frame was past its best and did not compliment this charming painting so at some period I had a bespoke frame made for this charming painting which now I believe compliments it being soft and aesthetically pleasing. This is a truly charming portrait and perfect for lovers of animal paintings it looks absolutely stunning in a room setting especially with other paintings. It is re strung and ready to hang.
