19th Century American school Oil On Canvas Painting. This painting is beautifully done and set in this gorgeous custom made 22k gold leaf , applied ornament frame. The painting is unsigned. I had this painting evaluated by an art expert an he dated the painting around 1840 to 1870. The painting had restoration some time back as you can on the back of the painting. The frame has some cracks in the gilding. Overall the painting is in good condition. Canvas size approximately 14 by 20 inches. Frame size is 22 1/2 by 29 inches. A substantial and well rendered oil portrait painting of an American woman, signed illegibly and dated 1850. I was told the sitter was a wealthy Southern woman from the Antebellum period, but I dont know how to verify this. Overall in good condition and presents nicely. It has been restored in the past: cleaned, relined, re-varnished, housed in a contemporary frame. There are scattered spots of in painting mainly to fave and hands, as well as scattered areas of small paint loss/wear. 43.75″ x 35.5″ framed. Antique Oil Painting Portrait Of The 1st Duke Of Wellington Circa 1840s 19th C. Measures 13 inches X 14 3/4 inches. Does show some wear given its age and has been previously restored. Minor tear in the chest which has been mended. Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, KG, GCB, GCH, PC, FRS (1 May 1769 14 September 1852) was an Anglo-Irish soldier and Tory statesman who was one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Britain, serving twice as prime minister. He ended the Napoleonic Wars when he defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The Duke of Wellington is portrayed wearing The Distinguished Order of the Golden Fleece (Spanish: Insigne Orden del Toisón de Oro, German: Orden vom Goldenen Vlies) which is a Catholic order of chivalry founded in Bruges by Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in 1430, to celebrate his marriage to Isabella of Portugal. Today, two branches of the order exist, namely the Spanish and the Austrian Fleece; the current grand masters are Felipe VI, King of Spain and Karl von Habsburg, head of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, respectively. 19th Century Early American Primitive Oil Portrait, style of Jacob Eichholtz
Eichholtz did not sign many of his works and this piece is unsigned. It is the spectacular lace collar that leads me to think he is the artist. The picture with frame is 25″ across and 30″ in height. There are two small specs of paint missing to the upper right but the back of the canvas is solid. The age is obvious by the back of the painting and it has not been restored, was very well protected all of these years. My guess is that it was painted in the first half of the 19th century by a master portrait artist who knew his craft well. Nice use of lighting on the face, with the left shoulder of the composition covered by a brilliant red velveteen shawl, a contrast to the staid nature of the subject. Here we have a charming oil on canvas portrait of a lady the painting is original as is the frame the lady is wearing a dark scarlet dress with her hair gentle falling to her décolleté. A beautiful painting that dates from the 19th century around 1850. Painting is generally in good condition I have owned the painting for many years and during its lifetime I have had it re-lined the canvas is in excellent condition.
