A light in the darkness. The painting itself measures 30″ x 25″ and is displayed in an Art Nouveau carved wood frame measuring 35 1/2″ x 30 1/2″. This is an incredibly old oil painting of a gentleman. It is signed and dated 1807. It is oil on canvas. The canvas measures 50.5″ x 40″. The frame measures 58″ x 47″. This is an amazing portrait but it does have quite a bit of craquelure and flaking. It appears to have had some restoration done. READ ABOUT OUR GALLERY. HUDSON RIVER VALLEY LANDSCAPE PAINTING WITH FARM VIEWS. In oil on canvas, unsigned; 19th century Item # 906IQW05J. A finely painted scene in oil on canvas executed in the manner of the Hudson River Valley school, this vivid landscape depicts a sweeping view of the countryside. The scene is handled expertly with crisp brush strokes bringing to life the complex array of leaves throughout the trees and wealth of grasses lining the foreground. A lone figure sits on the bank of a still river, the calm waters reflecting impressionistic hints of the bank while horses graze in a distant pasture. The painting is housed in an early and likely original frame with partial remnants of an old oxidized label from Wilmurt & Co. Picture Frames of New York. It is a powerful and very finely executed work. 31 5/8″ H x 43 1/2″ W x 4 3/8″ D [frame]; 20″ H x 32 1/4 W [canvas]. Condition Report: Frame has a few spots of loss and areas of regilding. Canvas would benefit from being cleaned as varnish has yellowed slightly and old spots of inpainting have become more obvious to the eye; light craquelure throughout with specks of paint loss in a few spots. Under UV examination, inpainting visible in the sky above the pasture, around the extreme edges of the painting and a few minor areas of touch up in the foliage. Up for sale is a very nice quality antique mid 19th century original landscape oil painting. It’s done on canvas and mounted over and early stretcher. The painting depicts a lovely landscape scene with a river running through the foreground. There are two men in a canoe in the center of this river with a canoe tied to a leafless tree by the bank.
