19th C. MYSTERY ARTIST ANTIQUE PORTRAIT WOMAN in NATURE ORIGINAL Oil on Canvas
Truly Marvelous 19th Century Mystery Artist painted this Lovely Antique Portrait of a Woman in Nature/Landscape. It is an Original Oil on Canvas from the mid to late 19th C.. It depicts a woman in a purple and black dress with a white apron, in repose, under a tree. She leans her head in one hand, possibly waiting for her beloved, who has kept her waiting too long (a fleeting smile on her lips). Luminously back-lit, the area around her head is marvelously contrasted by her dark dress and the folds in it. Paint application is heavy enough to give depth to the piece, especially the foliage on the upper right (see 3rd to last image). The piece is unsigned and has had 2 small repairs done years ago (see last image). There is craquelure fine pattern of dense cracking formed on the surface. It can be a result of drying, aging, intentional patterning, or a combination of all three throughout the piece. It is also a little out of square. Canvas measures 11 3/8 X 16 3/8 and is in Good Antique condition. There is wear along the edges, especially the top right (see 2nd to last image), but will be covered once framed. 1889 Original Oil on Canvas Signed Vincent, 19th Century Still Life Flowers. One of the most stunning original lost signed Vincent paintings we have ever seen. We are Pioneer Heroes Museum, of Casa Grande, Arizona. We are liquidating one of the most unique collections of late 19th, early 20th century art that has ever been found, in our opinion. Contained in two large cases, or trunks, this collection is made up of some of the most interesting and artistically significant pieces of art that we believe has been found in recent times. Other pieces are going to us on consignment for sale, or shown in our Museum gallery. By doing so, we hope to raise funds for the supply of our publically supported museum for six months. Most of the paintings seem to be signed Picasso or Vincent. We are liquidating the George Bernard Washington Whiting, Floyd Franklin Smith collection of interwar art from France. For those of you that are not familiar with our gallery and this collection, we’ve been liquidating pieces from this collection for several months, there are several Picasso’s, and other famous artists in this collection, all of which was found in two trunks in the storage area of a northern Arizona home. The Whitings settled in northern Arizona after World War II. Floyd Franklin Smith and the Whitings traveled extensively to Europe, and collected art from famous artists, and some not so famous, and brought them home on the rail line to northern Arizona. This outstanding antique, all original oil on canvas is signed in the original 130 year old oil paint “Vincent”, an original signature that matches Vincent Van Gogh. It is 31.25 by 23 inches. Almost the size and same construction as “Sunflowers”. This painting is, we believe, a lost Van Gogh. But if you use your best instincts, and training, it is unmistakable. One tell tale sign is that the yellows have dulled to off yellow, light green.. A common fate of Van Gogh yellows, as they had components that make the oil fade away from bright yellow. We have that here…. A chemical similarity to other Van Gogh work.
