Earl Graham Douglas Landscape Painting Description and Item Information Up for sale is this unframed, vintage landscape oil painting by Earl Graham Douglas. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This impressionistic painting depicts a landscape which includes trees (they look like eucalyptus trees to me) and mountains. The painting was executed on canvas, which someone affixed to a masonite board. The board measures approximately 14 inches by 18 inches. Unpacked, this piece weighs about 1 pound 8 ounces. This would make a wonderful addition to a collection of vintage American fine art. A torn piece of paper affixed to the back has the artist’s name and address in Pasadena written on it. This painting is not dated. Per askART, Douglas was born in Terre Haute, Indiana. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1887. Douglas’ studio-home was in Pasadena. He was active there until his death. He was a member of the Painters & Sculptors of Los Angeles, the California Art Club, and the Los Angeles Art League. He exhibited at the 1932 Olympiad Exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Condition This unframed painting looks good overall. The painting is clean and bright. As noted above, the painting was executed on canvas which was affixed to a masonite board; there is slight lifting of the canvas along a short length of one edge. To the upper left sky area, there are a couple of very small and minor scuffs or scrapes to the painted canvas, as found (this area is shown in Photo 2, within the blue sky area). The edges of the board have minor losses, and the edges of the canvas have minor wear. Terms of Sale 1. Offering here is a. Bennett Bradbury -Laguna Rocky Seascape-Beautiful California Oil painting. Oil painting on canvas -Signed. Frame size 35 x 25. Canvas size 24 x 18. Bennett Bradbury was born in Wrentham, Massachusetts on February 23, 1914. He was the offspring of one of the more musical families of America at that time. His mother Elfrida Schroeder, was a grand opera star of the Boston Opera Company, and his maternal grandfather was Alwin Schroeder, acclaimed as a cellist. Being raised and educated with such prestigious surroundings – Rachmaninoff, Kriesler, Paderewski, Horowitz and other famous personalities, Bradbury found many avenues within which to express his own natural and somewhat precocious talents. At age 15, he won a scholarship in painting and drawing with the Bostom Museum of Fine Arts, but with his inherent and overpowering love of the sea. He dropped his formal studies and joined the Navy in 1931. Bradbury’s subsequent travels gave him ample opportunity to enjoy, observe and study the fascinating and ever-changing moods of the sea and its shores. He joined Walt Disney Studios and became assistant director after his Navy duty and later decided to devote himself entirely to painting, which of course, was the sea. During the following years, Bradbury achieved much attention for his art career, one that spanned 50 years. Bennett Bradbury died in his beloved Carmel, California at age of 77. The view that Bradbury is considered a leading artist of his time is reinforced by Mr. Erwin Barrie, manager of Grand Central Galleries, for over a half a century. He said that Bradbury is the greatest living painter of the seas. No one since Winslow Homer and Fredrick J. Waugh has been able to portray on canvas the majesty and power and dignity of the ocean as does Bennett Bradbury, and I consider him to be the greatest living marine painter today. Medium: Oil on Canvas Board. I’m an artist, actor, and volunteer firefighter. For the past twelve years, I have been traveling in my Airstream trailer painting landscapes of this beautiful country of ours creating art that tries to capture a poetic mood. Inspired by the color and light, whether on a majestic landscape or intimate still life, using the techniques of Impressionism, Tonalism, and Realism is what I wish to share with the viewer. Exploring not only the landscape of the United States but also the wonderful art treasures we as a country possess. I have studied in many of the art museums from coast to coast and have learned many a lesson from the great art masters of the past. From Rembrandt to Monet, to Van Gogh to Jackson Pollock and beyond. As an actor, which I have begun fairly recently, I have been on many sets. As a volunteer firefighter, I have a deeper sense of community by giving what I can to help those in need.
