Antique Mid Century Impressionist Nude Woman Oil Painting N. Scott Jones
This is a well done and evocative Antique Mid Century Impressionist Nude Woman Oil Painting on canvas, by early Southern California artist N. This work approximately dates to the 1940’s, and depicts a reclining nude brunette woman on a red blanket. She faces away from the viewer, while her bare back and buttocks are visible. This is a lovely example of late American Impressionism, and would fit right in with the early French Impressionists of the late 19th century in terms of style and composition. Scott Jones in the lower right of the canvas. Not much is known about this artist, but perhaps you know more about them or their work. I also have another original artwork by N. Scott Jones available in my listings. Approximately 25 x 36 inches. Good condition for age, with light edge wear and a few light scratches and dimples to the canvas please see photos. An old exhibition label on the verso reads: Fourteenth Annual Emily Lowe Competition. Art Project of the Joe & Emily Lowe Foundation. From this information, this work appears to have been exhibited in the 1950’s, but my personal experience leads me to believe this painting was likely created a decade earlier, based on the canvas, stretcher, and composition of this piece. Mid Century Modern Art. This is a really gorgeous oil painting. The woman has a face so beautiful. The brushstrokes are vivid and blunt. The colors match so well and it hasn’t been cleaned in over half a century probably. With that being said I deem this oil painting a 10. Definitely it could use a bit of a clean, and if done professionally I believe this painting would be over the top. Approx this painting is 16×30 without the frame. The frame is probably original to the piece and used to have 2 more shiny inserts to the tops and bottom sections of the frame like it has on the two sides. Please see item description. ANTIQUE EXHIBITED Barbizon Landscape Oil Painting MONOGRAM SIGNED 19th Century. “Barbizon River Landscape” Monogram Signed c1870. This is an interesting period Barbizon work that is monogram signed lower left. The frame has an old plaque reading “21”- this suggests the work was part of an exhibition back in the day. Size- 15.75 by 22.5 inches approx including frame, canvas 7 by 14 inches approx. Medium- Oil on canvas. Frame- Antique wooden frame, some knocks and losses, offered free with the painting. Condition- We would be very happy to hang this one as found. There is however a good deal of varnish browning and some old restoration to the sky. Up for sale is an antique 19-century oil painting on canvas laid on board depicting a genre scene – an Italian boy carrying wine jugs. The painting is presented in a period ornate gold frame. The frame is in good condition. The painting has some dirty areas and scuffs. Please see the photos, they are part of the description. The reverse of the canvas depicts the antique framing clasps known as Shattuck (dated February 1883 – June 1885), invented in 1883 by Aaron Draper Shattuck, a 19th-century painter living in the northeast. Welcome to Latelier Salon Art Gallery. Presumed portrait of Louise Hollandine from the palatinate, entourage of Gerrit Van Honthorst. Oil on canvas 26in x 22.4in (66cm x 57cm) surrounded by a carved and gilded wooden frame of time and Louis XV style 33in x 27.5in (84cm x 70cm). This painting is a Dutch portrait of the seventeenth century made in the entourage of the famous painter Gerrit Van Honthorst. The young woman is very likely Louis Hollandine of the Palatinate, born April 18, 1622 in La Hayeet died February 11, 1709. She was an aristocrat, painter and abbess Maubuisson.
