Vintage Mid Century Modern Abstract Oil Mixed Painting Listed Ray Jacobsen MCM. For your consideration a vintage mixed media, mid century modern oil paint by Ray Jacobsen. Beautiful colors with some applied texture. Signed on the bottom left R. Jacobsen 1968 and numbered on the back #773. Measures 19 by 17 with the frame. Painted on board excellent condition with no issues. Please see the pictures for details. Ray Jacobsen was born on January 19, 1938 in Englewood Colorado. The family lived in many places due to his fathers work with the military. After his parents divorce in 1947, Ray, his mother, brother and sister moved to Sonoma. At a very young age, Ray showed an interest and talent in art. In his second year at Sonoma Valley High School, he met his mentor, art teacher Jean Yates, fresh out of the Chicago Art Institute. To quote Ray, He was the catalyst who made me aware of my talents. From then on there was never any question in my mind about my. After high school Ray was faced with the draft and, unable to attend art school due to his familys limited finances, he enlisted in the Army and was sent to Korea. After his return he worked several jobs, got married and started a family. By his late 20s he was able to support his family through the sale of his paintings. Ray spent the rest of his life fully devoted to his art. In 1975, he met his soul-mate and fellow artist Barbara. They married in 1977 and continued their journey together until his death on September 3, 2007. My paintings blend realism and the surreal in a unique interpretation of our hills and valleys. My deep personal love of the natural beauty of Sonoma county and the northern California coast has inspired my work for five decades. One of the founding members of the Arts Guild of Sonoma in 1977, Ray was an active and supportive member for 30 years. He was a perennial contributor of his time and artwork to the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art as an Advisory Council member, a Wet Paint donor, and an exhibitor in the Biennial and Sonoma Collects exhibitons. He also taught private classes in watercolor and oil painting. Rays work is in numerous public and private collections throughout the United States and abroad. Some of his more notable exhibitions have been in the Crocker Museum, Sacramento, The University of New Mexico, Richmond Art Center, Boise State University, Scottsdale Center for the Arts, California Museum of Visual Arts, and the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. He received the Bronze California Discovery Award in 1994 and was voted Sonoma City Artist Treasure in 1997. Ray was awarded a grant from the Pollock Krasner Foundation in 2003. If you have always wanted a Edouard Cortes or a E. Galen Laloue but did not want to spend 25-50,000, then Schaeffer is a great alternative. He was a contemporary of Cortes. He is a listed french artist with the same high quality look as Cortes. Henri Alexis Schaeffer was born in Paris, France in early August of 1900. A student at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris, Schaeffer studied painting under thehand of the master Cormon. Schaeffers earlier paintings consisted primarily of architectural studies of classical monuments and religious landmarks. Was a member of and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français beginning in 1934. Schaeffer mainly painted urban Parisien scenes. Schaeffer was a Post-Impressionist, the art movement following Impressionism and Neo-Impressionism. The style showed a greater concern for expression, structure and form than did Impressionism. While the use of light is still important, it is strong and focused, as opposed to soft and diffused and the use of color is also strong and pure. In this ingenuity there was a certain measure of retroactivity inherent to the nature of his later work. The paintings depict Paris subjects and landmarks, yet the Paris he portrays is the Paris of an earlier day; carriages, gaslights, women in clothing styled as it was in the first decades of this century. It has been suggested that Schaeffer was a painter of the Paris of his childhood. Henri Alexis Schaeffer remained in Paris throughout his life and died there in 1975. The artist was a member of the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1934. LISTEDARTIST fine art collection. MOUNT SHASTA river landscape. Early California Plein Air Impressionism. ANTIQUE DETREVILLE, EARLY CALIFORNIA PLEIN AIR IMPRESSIONIST OIL RIVER LANDSCAPE. Beautiful old early Calif CA oil painting. Original antique pie crust frame with partial California framer label verso (see photos). In need of some restoration -frame is chipped at edges and some light restoration to painting is needed (see condition and photos). Signed lower left, “DeTreville”. Piecrust frame, antique California landscape nature scene with river rocks and appears to be lush Northern California forest river in mountain landscape view. In 1892, he moved to California and settled in Stockton where he established a small newspaper called Det’s Magazine. Shortly after 1910, DeTreville moved to San Francisco where, in addition to painting, he worked as a cartoonist for the Park Presidio News. His works were handled locally by Schussler Brothers and Sanborn & Vail, and were also available in his Clement Street studio. The last few years of his life were spent across the bay in Alameda where he died on February 25, 1929. 9×26.75 framed, aprox. MEDIUM: oil on canvas, original antique pie crust frame. CONDITION: In need of cleaning and light frame restoration (see photos). All original as found antique components. Frame has some small chips to edges and cracked off pieces from the pie style frame (see top left edge and various spots of chipping). Old painting is untouched and in need of a professional cleaning and varnish. A couple small scuffs to canvas around the edges and a couple scratch lines (see photos) to the canvas -mostly around the edges from frame rub and age. Consider antique as found, old original condition painting.
