ROBERT STANLEY Signed 1966 Original Acrylic Pop Art Painting 4 Beatles LISTED
ROBERT STANLEY Signed 1966 Original Acrylic Pop Art Painting “4 Beatles”. This rare original acrylic painting is entitled “4 Beatles” and is signed by the artist on the canvas verso “Bob Stanley”. It is also titled, dated “1966” and inscribed “for Bill Gelfman”. It is in good condition, measures 38″ x 45″ and is framed in its original black wood strip frame (there is wear to the frame). Bob (Robert) Stanley was a painter whose early work was figurative painting about contemporary American life. In the 1960s and early 1970s, he based his paintings on photographs, which he manipulated from black and white or larger than life colored shapes. Stanley was born in Yonkers, New York and studied at the Arts Students League, the Brooklyn Museum Art School on a Max Beckman Scholarship, Columbia University and Oglethorpe University. In the early 1960’s, he began to base his paintings on images clipped from newspapers and magazines, following the example of Pop artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, who would become his brother-in-law. Enlarged and often rendered in two equally saturated colors (red and green, for example), Mr. Stanley’s images could border on the abstract or be powerfully explicit. His preferred subjects, including rock stars, sporting events and pornography, always seemed to grate against the pretenses of high art. In the late 1960’s Mr. Stanley started using his own photographs, basing paintings on images of tree branches or the ground, and also using pictures of life-drawing models at the School of Visual Arts, where he was a faculty member for 16 years. He had his first solo show at Paul Bianchini in 1965 and thereafter exhibited regularly in New York City and Europe. His work is represented in many public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in Manhattan; the Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington and the Milwaukee Art Museum. For sale is an Exceptionally Beautiful and Rare Vintage Signed Mid Century Modern Work by Listed Artist Dorothy Louise Bowman. This Original Signed, Framed and Matted Painting Measures Approximately 15 7/8″ x 13 7/8″ for the Frame and Approximately 10 1/2″ x 8 1/4″ for the Painting. Dorothy Louise Bowman , painter and printmaker, was born in Hollywood, California on 20 January 1927. She studied at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles under Rico LeBrun and Jean Charlot. She furthered her studies at the Jepson Art Institute and the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Art Institute, and at Webster College in St Louis. Dorothy met fellow artist Howard Bradford, also a painter and printmaker, while studying at Chouinard. They married and eventually settled in Big Sur, California where she painted with her friend and neighbor, the author, Henry Miller. Bowman was a member of the Western Serigraphic Society and she received numerous awards for her serigraphs. Her work was shown at the Brooklyn Museums National Print Show between 1954 and 1962, and the Library of Congress National Print Shows and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston shows between the years 1954 and 1971. She was selected for Fifty American Printmakers , an exhibition that was circulated by American Federation of Arts to Japan and Moscow. Bowman also received commissions from the International Graphic Arts Society. Former Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts Director, E. Gunter Troche, wrote of her work. Dorothy Bowman specializes in serigraphs with a Californian flavor. She has been able to give to this technique an intricacy of design and a luminescence of color seldom reached by others. The recent cityscapes of Dorothy Bowman are aglow with excitement in their moody yet stimulating contrasts. Bowmans work is represented in the collections of the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, San Francisco; the Museum of Fine Arts Boston; the Brooklyn Museum, New York; the Library of Congress, Washington, D. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D. And the New York Public Library. This Piece is a Rare Original, NOT one of her more common Serigraphs and is a wonderful example of her semi-abstract impressionist style. The painting itself is in pretty good condition but could use a cleaning. Two small cracks in the paint starting to form left of the tree. One small dent in the frame on the right side and a small dent to the frame in the lower middle. The paper was sealed extra tight on the backing and so over time holes have formed. Our goal is to gain your trust by consistently offering items of the highest quality with accurate descriptions and photographs. ALL ITEMS PACKAGED WITH CARE TO ENSURE THEY ARRIVE IN THE SAME CONDITION! United States Post Office no longer offers surface or ground. Original oil painting created by one of the most talented and promising Russian artists – Aleksander Volya. Breathtaking winter landscapes – that’s what he became famous for! Master of light strokes, feather-like snow artist, Volya creates his own magical winter tales. “THE VILLAGE”, OIL ON CANVAS, MUSEUM QUALITY WOODEN FRAME, TOTAL SIZE 19″X27″ (48cm x 68cm). Was born in 1965 in Krivoy Rog, USSR. He got a degree in Art, graduating the Faculty of Graphic Arts of Kryvoy Rog State University in 1990. He discovered his interest in art when he was still at school so before he entered institute he used to attend atelier of fine art and also art school. Alexander Volya is qualified both in graphic arts and easel painting, still just our of curiosity he made an attempt in other fields – cinema advertising, fine arts, designing, animated graphics and also teaching. He has been living and working in Naberezhnye Chelny (Russia) since 1992. Today his artworks can be found in private art collections in Russia, Ukraine, China, France, Germany, the UK, Canada, Spain, Malaysia, Mexico, the USA and Japan. As artist mentions, he derives strength in his own contrariness: When i was a child I set a goal to learn how to paint finely… Since then I have been hanging about in this direction. The protagonist of Volya’s art is definitely outside world where every canvas is an act of admiration for nature. He is talented to find tiny details which touch ones heart to the core in ordinary landscape and still life – those like Russian classic plots or grandmother’s fairy tails. There is present and past, mood, temper and nature, feeling of total reality in his art – you smell those apples you see on the painting, and you really feel the frost on your cheeks. “At some point you will see the beauty there where you haven’t seen it before”, – states the artist. Listed Artist Alex Dzigurski (1911-1995) Large Nocturnal Oil Seascape Painting
This beautiful vintage painting was completed on canvas and signed by the artist on the lower right A. Alex Dzigurski, American Marines and Landscapes. The artist does a wonderful job of capturing nature’s majestic beauty in. A luminous glow that is diffused throughout the whole painting. It is an excellent example of the artist’s work. It is in very good vintage condition. Under a black light it shows no signs of paint loss, in-painting or repair. Unframed the painting measures 24″ in height x 36″ wide and together with the vintage gesso and wooden frame it measures 36″ x 42″. The handsome vintage frame has a depth of 1 1/2 and it is also in very good vintage condition. As for the artist, Alexander Dzigurski is known for his seascapes, landscapes and portraits and is associated with the art of California. Alex was born in the farming community of Backa, located in Stari Becej, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The son of a wheat farmer, he was one of four siblings. Alexander’s father considered his son’s artistic desires an unproductive pursuit, however, his mother was most interested in her son’s talent, and understood her son’s wishes to extend his abilities beyond the farm. With the assistance of the Serbian Church, he went to Belgrade, where he lived at. Monastery and attended the School of Art. He painted portraits for private families and did restorations of old iconostases as means of support. After graduating at age 18 in 1929, he continued his studies at Munich’s Academy of Art. Then, for two years he volunteered in the King’s Navy (Kingdom of Yugoslavia) beginning in 1939. His experiences provided his first works of his sea paintings. After his military period, he married his high school sweetheart. A daughter was born in 1933 and he soon opened “Zograf”, his first studio. In 1941, Dzigurski was activated into the Yogoslav army communications division. Several weeks later, Hitler’s army took most of his unit prisoner. Dzigurski managed to escape. Yugoslavia continued to be dissolved by the Germans, thus forcing Dzigurski to relinquish his succesful studio and depart for Italy. In 1949, the Dzigurski’s departed Naples, Italy and arrived in New York Harbor aboard the Marine Jumper. His former Yugoslav professor introduced the family into the Serbian Orhodox Church community. Familiar with Alexader’s work, the Bishop had him paint icons (traditionally Byzantine) for a small memorial chapel in Pennsylvania. He would later be commissioned to paint the alters and interiors of nine Serbian Orthodox churches between 1951 and 1960. His beautiful works were not signed, remaining anonymous like most of the orthodox ecclesiastical painters before him. Dzigurski viewed his art as a sacred craft, excluding the intervention of human inventions. By about 1952, Alexander settled his family in California and began to paint seriously, particularly along the coastlines of northern California and Oregon. In 1968, a period of depression followed the death of his wife, and he lost interest in life and painting. While recovering from a broken arm, Dzigurski became fond of, and married his nurse. With renewed optimism and the birth of his son, Alexander Jr. He vigorously began painting again. His seascapes and landscapes are most realistic and have broad appeal. His extensive travelling in the United States can be seen in his works from the Smoky Mountains, the Grand Tetons, Mt. Shasta, the Rockies, Glacier National Park, New England and other coastal communities. Was a member of the Artists of America Association and exhibited his paintings at the Charles Russel Museum in Great Falls, Montana and with the Artists of America Denver, Colorado Rotary Club. His paintings can be found in may private and public institutions like the Franklin Mint Museum of American Art in Pennsylvania, the Republic Bank of Dallas, The Michagan Bank of Chicago, Illinois, the Ravenswood Bank of Chicago to name a few. Having become one of America’s well-known artists, Alexander Dzigurski passed away in 1995. This work to be an original Alexander Dzigurski painting. I described the painting’s condition accurately. Vintage Lady Portrait Oil Painting Listed California Artist Maria Von Ridelstein
Vintage Portrait of a Woman Oil Painting Description and Item Information Up for sale is this beautiful, vintage portrait oil on stretched canvas painting by the well-known California artist, Baroness Maria Von Ridelstein. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This portrait depicts a classy woman who seems to be dressed in a mid-century, 1950s style. She has a serene appearance which is somewhat casual, yet still elegant. The sight area is approximately 23 1/2 inches by 19 1/2 inches. The painting has a newer, yet nicely paired, gold-finished frame. The exterior frame measurements are about 29 3/8 inches by 25 3/8 inches. Unpacked, this piece weighs about 6 pounds 2 ounces. This would be a fine addition to a collection of vintage American fine art. The identity of the sitter is not known. Von Ridelstein is a listed artist on askART. Per askART, she was born in Leipzig, Germany. Von Ridelstein studied art in Paris, Rome, and Munich. She married Baron Herbert Von Ridelstein in Munich. They traveled to Asia, where her husband was imprisoned by the Japanese during World War I. She taught art in Yokohama during his captivity. The Von Ridelsteins moved to Valparaiso, Chile, where she was the head of the art department at the Colegio Aleman; she also taught at the College of the Irish Sisters. In 1926, the couple moved to San Francisco, California. Von Ridelstein worked at the Fashion Art School in the Scottish Rite Temple and at the California College of Arts and Crafts. Following her husband’s death in 1935, she taught art at her home. During World War II, she taught art to servicemen at the USO. In 1968, after 44 years teaching and lecturing in San Francisco, Von Ridelstein was named one of the distinguished women of the year by the San Francisco Examiner. She passed away in San Francisco. Her works included portraits, still lifes, city scenes, and figure studies, along with a few monotypes. Von Ridelstein was a member of the Society of Western Artists, San Francisco Women Artists, and the American Watercolor Society. Her works were exhibited at the Santa Cruz Art League (1938) and they were shown in the San Francisco Chronicle (1954 and 1970). Condition This piece looks great overall. It is ready to hang and enjoy, in my opinion. The painting looks wonderful, with no damage. The frame has very light wear. Terms of Sale 1. Vintage California Landscape Oil Painting Earl Graham Douglas Listed Pasadena
Earl Graham Douglas Landscape Painting Description and Item Information Up for sale is this unframed, vintage landscape oil painting by Earl Graham Douglas. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This impressionistic painting depicts a landscape which includes trees (they look like eucalyptus trees to me) and mountains. The painting was executed on canvas, which someone affixed to a masonite board. The board measures approximately 14 inches by 18 inches. Unpacked, this piece weighs about 1 pound 8 ounces. This would make a wonderful addition to a collection of vintage American fine art. A torn piece of paper affixed to the back has the artist’s name and address in Pasadena written on it. This painting is not dated. Per askART, Douglas was born in Terre Haute, Indiana. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1887. Douglas’ studio-home was in Pasadena. He was active there until his death. He was a member of the Painters & Sculptors of Los Angeles, the California Art Club, and the Los Angeles Art League. He exhibited at the 1932 Olympiad Exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Condition This unframed painting looks good overall. The painting is clean and bright. As noted above, the painting was executed on canvas which was affixed to a masonite board; there is slight lifting of the canvas along a short length of one edge. To the upper left sky area, there are a couple of very small and minor scuffs or scrapes to the painted canvas, as found (this area is shown in Photo 2, within the blue sky area). The edges of the board have minor losses, and the edges of the canvas have minor wear. Terms of Sale 1. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made. And international government regulations prohibit such behavior.
