Vintage Original Nude Painting. Oil on Canvas Wrapped Board. Artist: Luis Carlos Rodriguez. Medium: Oil on Canvas Wrapped Board. Canvas Size: Approximately 15″ x 30″. About the Artist: Luis Carlos Rodriguez was a Colombian born artist best known for his continuous line contour painting method and his self portraits full of luminous color and subtle tonalities which became the central theme of his work later in life. Combining watercolor and ink and incorporating his continuous line technique, his early work illustrates a mix of surrealism and realism that intricate and simple rendering it quite unique. The color richness and fine detail of his portrait oil work is quite striking. He painted several self-portraits which have cemented the painter’s prominent features and give us a glimpse into his cultural consciousness. Rodriquez gained much of his early art training at the famed National School of Fine Arts (La Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes de Colombia) in Bogota. He then moved to Mexico and continued his studies at the Academia de San Carlos, the first art academy in the Americas. There he took a keen interest in the work of the school’s most famous alum, José María Velasco, whose landscape and self-portrait paintings can be clearly seen as an influence in Rodriguez’ technique. Luis Carlos eventually moved to California where his paintings were the subject of exhibitions later in life. His work is featured in many galleries and museums throughout Central and South America and more recently, as his painting gain significant notoriety, they have become highly sought after by both individual and institutional collectors of Latin American fine art. Antique Mid Century Impressionist Nude Woman Oil Painting N. Scott Jones
This is a well done and evocative Antique Mid Century Impressionist Nude Woman Oil Painting on canvas, by early Southern California artist N. This work approximately dates to the 1940’s, and depicts a reclining nude brunette woman on a red blanket. She faces away from the viewer, while her bare back and buttocks are visible. This is a lovely example of late American Impressionism, and would fit right in with the early French Impressionists of the late 19th century in terms of style and composition. Scott Jones in the lower right of the canvas. Not much is known about this artist, but perhaps you know more about them or their work. I also have another original artwork by N. Scott Jones available in my listings. Approximately 25 x 36 inches. Good condition for age, with light edge wear and a few light scratches and dimples to the canvas please see photos. An old exhibition label on the verso reads: Fourteenth Annual Emily Lowe Competition. Art Project of the Joe & Emily Lowe Foundation. From this information, this work appears to have been exhibited in the 1950’s, but my personal experience leads me to believe this painting was likely created a decade earlier, based on the canvas, stretcher, and composition of this piece. Charles Griffin Farr Standing Nude oil on canvas 1962
Charles Griffin Farr – “Standing Nude” oil on canvas – 1962. He witnessed and rendered the American Depression in the 1930s, World War II in the 1940s, a charged art scene in San Francisco in the 1950s-1990s and a vibrant neighborhood of creative people living on Potrero Hill. Charles Griffin Farr was also a proponent of the importance of the arts. He offered weekly figure drawing sessions in his Potrero Hill studio and home. Farr also organized a local art show at the San Francisco Public Library, Potrero Branch, called the Potrero Hill Artists’ Exhibition in 1958. This is the oldest annual art show in San Francisco and owes its longevity to a group of artists who painted with, or under the tutelage of Farr. This exhibition is credited with helping to save the Potrero Branch of the library from being closed during budget cuts. Charles Griffin Farr was represented by the Hackett Freedman Gallery in San Francisco until it closed in 2009. He is in a number of important public and private art collections. This listing is for the Exceptional Antique 19th C. French Parisian Academic Nude Male Painting pictured above. A beautiful circa 1885 French School nude male portrait. This exceptional work depicts a nude man with a beard and mustache standing with his legs together and arms crossed. He wears cloth underwear. The artist set the man against a loosely painted brown oval background. The work is likely by the hand of an artist working in Paris in the 1880s, and the subject was likely a model for a group of artists at a studio. The back of the canvas is stamped with the canvas supplier – Jordany Aube. This stamp was used by the supplier exclusively between 1883 and 1889. The work is an oil on canvas and appears unsigned. 24 inches tall by 18 inches wide (painting). 30.25 inches tall by 24.75 inches wide (frame). Condition : Good overall antique condition. Scattered inpainting (refer to photo under blacklight). Some losses to the frame along with typical wear/scratches. It is ready to be displayed and enjoyed!
