Large Texas Hill Country Oil Painting Description and Item Information Up for sale is this large and beautiful Texas landscape oil on canvas painting. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This painting depicts, in an impressionistic style, a landscape which includes bluebonnet flowers and oak trees. This unframed piece measures approximately 24 inches by 36 inches. Unpacked, it weighs about 2 3/4 pounds. This piece would be a nice addition to a collection of American fine art. Identification This piece is by someone named Moore, but I have not identified the exact artist. The painting was skillfully done. The exact age of this northern California estate piece is not known, but it is likely vintage. Condition This unframed piece has very light edge wear from previous framing. It looks great overall. His first call was to the ministry and after serving in the Air Force during WWII, he was ordained as a Lutheran pastor. This calling took him first to Lubbock, Texas, Mexico, and finally Dallas. It was during this ministry in Mexico that Mr. Slaughter began seriously to hear another call. Slaughter began painting and exhibiting at local art and craft shows after moving to Dallas. Slaughter first belonged to and exhibited with the Artists and Craftsmen’s Association of Dallas. In 1968, he was awarded first in landscape painting. In 1973, he was awarded first in still life painting. Here’s another great 9×12 oil on board original painting by Fred Darge, mint condition of “The Texas Hill Country” A one of kind and a real beauty for any collector! Fred Darge was active/lived in Texas. Fred Darge is known for western genre-cowboy, landscape. Biography from the Archives of askART. The following is from David Darge: Friedrich Ernst Darge Born: March 1 1900 Rendsburg, Germany Died: April 10 1978 Dallas, Texas Entered the U. 14 1923 at Port Arthur, Texas. By 1924 he was in Chicago painting under the W. Artists policy and attending the Art Institute of Chicago from where he graduated. While in Chicago he painted and made model sail boats, an interest he acquired in the German Merchant Marine at the age of 16. He also married, became a father, and managed a painting trip throughout Minnesota and the Dakota’s with his wife and son. By July of 1933 he had separated from his wife and son in Chicago and had settled in San Antonio, Texas as a starving artist. In September, 1935 he moved to Dallas where he finished his paintings during the winter months and spent the summers painting on the ranches in West Texas and New Mexico. He entered the Army on Nov. 11 1942, served in the south Pacific and was honorably discharged on March 22 1944. He went to work in the defense industry for North American Aviation as a technical illustrator until the wars end. Back in Dallas, Fred bought a WWII ambulance and converted it to an artist’s studio-van and spent the years from 1946 to 1978 traveling and painting throughout Texas and New Mexico, returning to Dallas to finish his paintings, carve, build and sail his model boats. His later years were spent at his studio adjacent to the Dallas Art Association where he also acted as an Instructor. His paintings have been exhibited in Chicago, New York, Miami, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Austin, Taos, and Sante Fe. Dawson DawsonWatson is known for landscape and portrait painting, graphics. Biography from the Archives of askART. Born in London, England, Dawson Dawson-Watson was a landscape, portrait, genre, marine, and mural painter and graphics artist who was the son of a popular English illustrator. He attended grammar school at Southsea, Hampshire. His first art teacher was Mark Fisher, with whom he studied in Steyning, England. A wealthy local brewer then sponsored Dawson-Watson’s art training in Paris that included classes with Carolus Duran. While in France, he also studied with Louis-Joseph Raphael Collin and Pierre Paul Leon Glaize. The artist lived in Giverny, France near the home of Impressionist Claude Monet for five years, 1884 to 1890, and in 1888 married an American women, Mary Hoyt Sellar, who was traveling in Europe. They came to the United States in 1893 at the encouragement of artist James Carroll Beckwith, and Dawson painted in New England until 1897. He was hired as director of the Hartford Art Society in Hartford, Connecticut. Returning to the United States, he taught from 1903 to 1904 at Byrdcliffe Colony, a center for the Artist and Crafts Movement in Woodstock, New York. This period was followed by teaching for eleven years at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts, serving as art director of a pageant in Brandesville, Missouri, and in 1918, serving a year as director of the San Antonio Art Guild. He also painted the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Murals include Meditation in the Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, and The Open Book of Nature at Wichita High School in Kansas.
