Dey de Ribcowsky -Early California Seascape -Golden Sunset circa 1919
Here is an original oil painting by early California artist Dey de Ribcowsky. Painting is oil on canvas, laid down on masonite, and measures 20 x 30 inches. Overall framed size is 23 x 33 inches. Painting is signed lower left and dated’19. Painting includes nice vintage framing. Condition is clean and in good condition with scattered visible craquelure. Dey de Ribcowsky -Early California Seascape -Golden Sunset circa 1919. Overall framed size is 23 1/2 x 33 1/2 inches. Painting was recently cleaned with minimal touchups. There is visible, scattered craquelure. Born in Rustchuk, Bulgaria on Oct. Rather than go to military school, at age 13 DeRibcowski began his art studies in Paris and continued in Florence and Petrograd. After founding the Academy of Beaux Arts in Buenos Aires in 1904, he arrived in New York City in 1910. By 1917 he was painting in San Francisco and soon settled in Inglewood, CA. After an auto accident in 1931, he was in a wheel chair until his death in Los Angeles on Aug. He was the inventor of the medium Reflex. Early 19th century oil painting of Crusades soldier
Very nice older painting of crusades soldier. The image has a rebaldo look but no religious marks but crusades banner. Good color with good painting surface. The stretcher if original is wedged type that would date it very early. Has Triangular intial SAT on leg of horse. Image is 12 by 16 inches and would be very well enhanced with period frame. Antique Early American Folk Art Portrait handsome Man Empire Picture Frame 1840
This nicely preserved historic oil on canvas portrait of a handsome, 20-something man check out the eyebrows! With pleasant, subtle smiling facial expression and tousled hair with near spit curls is housed in its original mahogany on pine frame retaining original varnish and measures 30 1/4″ x 26 1/8″ overall; 26″ x 22″ actual. The subject is depicted with his arm casually draped over the back of an empire side chair and engaging the viewer with the frankness and piercing dark brown eyes. The work has stable paint with some very small pinpoint spots of loss in the background and the surface of the painting is fairly dirty with no obvious inpaint. It has an early 20th century re-lining and is mounted to its original stretchers. I added the modern steel clips as the bent nails previously employed were loose and a potential threat to the canvas. It comes from a Massachusetts family collection and the identity of the sitter is unknown.
