Many buyers report the original looking better than the photos. Biographical Notes : Like many, the artist began painting and drawing at an early age. His talents developed slowly over the years, which competed with many other interests during his youth. After graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in Zoology and service in the US Peace Corps in South America, he began considering art as a profession in 1990. The artist is largely self-taught, but has pursued training in a number of workshops, classes, and mentoring with established professional artists, including internationally-renowned French Impressionist Pierre Bittar. He places much importance on drawing technique, especially drawing the nude figure from life, and firmly believes it is the foundation of painting. His childhood interest in painting focused on the French Impressionist period and the post-impressionist/expressionist styles immediately following it. He counts Vincent Van Gogh as a very early influence, which he says is still with him. The artist’s interest in impressionism influences his working techniques, which center on the practice of plein air painting, or working directly in the open air. His long experience working outdoors on location helps him deal with the limitations imposed on the artist who uses reference photographs in the studio. The artist’s work is widely represented in private collections in the US, Canada, Europe (Spain, Switzerland, France, England, Ireland, and Austria), Korea and Taiwan.
