Original Oil On Canvas By Gloucester Artist Maria Liszt. Ships In Harbor. Signed
For sale is a great oil on canvas painting by Gloucester Massachusetts artist Maria Veronica Liszt. This is one of two paintings we recently acquired of hers. This painting features local fishing boats in a harbor. A very typical Gloucester School scene. It is among her most prized and collected images. It is titled on the rear stretcher. It is signed in the lower right corner as well as on the rear stretcher. The painting is in overall good condition. It is not in its original frame. It appears it was framed once before. There are areas of small nail holes through the canvas. This was probably from the original framing. (we have taken detailed pictures for your consideration). It could use a good professional cleaning but hangs quite lovely as it is. Frame – 32″ x 28″. Painting – 24″ x 20″. Maria Veronica Liszt (Kinder) was a second-generation Gloucester artist who was born on March 10, 1902 in Boston, Massachusetts. Her father was also an artist who had studied with John Singer Sargent. She was a graduate of the Scott Carbee School of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston. She also studied at the Art Student League of New York and studied landscape painting with such notables as Aldro T. Hibbard, Karl Nordstrom, W. Lester Stevens and Emile A. She was an active member of the Northshore Art Association in Gloucester, the Gloucester Society of Artists, the Academy Art Association and the National Association of Women Painters. Talented and versatile, as well as prolific, she is best known for her landscapes, marines, figures and portraits. She accepted many commissions for decorative wall murals that were painted in private homes, hotels and public buildings throughout Massachusetts, New York and Florida. Favoring a darker palette, her style combines the best of the traditional Cape Ann School with avant-garde impressionism. Her works have been exhibited at the Northshore Art Association, the National Academy of Design, the Grand Central Art Galleries in New York City, the New Jersey Art Association and by the Academic Artists of Springfield, Massachusetts. She was awarded the Elizabeth T. Greenshields award by NSAA in 1961. Maria Liszt died in Gloucester in 1992. The item “Original Oil On Canvas By Gloucester Artist Maria Liszt. Ships In Harbor. D’Alessandro was born in Italy in 1943, the daughter of an Italian diplomat from Brazil. She studied art in Rome and when her father became consul in Brazil she continued her studies there. The paintings by D’Alessandro have been exhibited in the united states since 1967 with great success. Paintings by D’Alessandro have been on permanent exhibit with the Arnot art dealers in New York since 1967. Her work is well- know in Europe and Latin America as well. D’Alessandro also used nom de plume for subject matter that differed from her typical subject matter of her D’Alessandro paintings including: Goodridge, Humes, Montand, Renot, Marlo, Mitchell, la Boete, Bisset, Lapin, la Vie. It is not very often that people ask me what it is that inspired my paintings. I find this question to be very thoughtful and inspiring for my paintings in the future. Growing up in Italy I was surrounded by ports with beautiful boats constantly coming and going. My father and I would often go down to the harbors to look at all of the different boats there. It was at that time that I developed my love of boats, and wanted to capture their beauty on canvas. It inspires me as an artist to know that my paintings are appreciated by the people who see them in the galleries and take them home to share their beauty. D’Alessandro retired from painting after severe bouts with Lyme’s Disease which left her with extreme pain in her joints and has since kept her from her painting studio. D’Alessandro was married to the late artist Luiz Coelho. The item “D’ALESSANDRO ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS SIGNED WithCOA BOATS IN HARBOR 24X20″ is in sale since Tuesday, July 5, 2016. HOWARD SCHAFER Original Oil on Canvas Marine Painting of Sailboats in Harbor
HOWARD SCHAFER Original Oil on Canvas Marine Painting of Sailboats in Harbor. This sale is for a HOWARD SCHAFER Original Oil on Canvas Marine Painting of Sailboats in Harbor. Excellent condition – with no damage. Viewable area of canvas measures 35″ wide x 23.5″ tall. This painting was acquired during the closure of a Super yacht. Company from Riveria Beach, FL. Potential buyers are welcome to have this painting inspected by a local Ocala / Orlando gallery if so desired. Web information about the artist. Schafer grew up along the New Jersey coast and at an early age he transformed his love of the tidewater area into artwork and painting. He attended the Philadelphia Museum College of Art and graduated in 1959. Schafer credits the Philadelphia School of Realists as an influence on his own work and technique. Painters such as Eakins, Homer and Wyeth have had a profound effect on the young artist. During the early 1960’s, Mr. Schafer worked as a concept artist for Martin Marietta Corporation where he depicted early stages of the United States space program. Moving to New York City he painted and illustrated for many clients, among them Popular Mechanics, Motor Boating and Sailing, and American Aviation magazines. Having always owned a small sailboat, he found the northern winters cut down the sailing season so in 1973 he moved to the sunny environs of Florida. Since then his diverse career has included his own gallery, architectural renderings along the Treasure Coast and paintings for galleries in New York and Los Angeles. It was a great loss to the marine arts community when Mr. Schafer passed away in April, 2004. Painting is offered as-is, with all sales final. 1962 HAITIAN RAOUL DuPOUX SIGNED HARBOR SCENE ORIGINAL OIL on CANVAS N/R
1962 Haitian Artist Raoul Dupoux Signed & Dated this truly masterful Harbor Scene. Original Oil on stretched canvas. Simple subject and composition but very nuanced. The water, the sky, the sails, the boat hulls, everything shimmers with gentle motion. Reminds one of the fabulous Early and Mid 20th Century New England Harbor scenes. I would say Rustic meets French School, stylewise. Canvas measures 24 X 32 and is in Good to Very good condition. He started designing at the age of seven, while in school, with the guidance of his mother, a watercolor artist. He then used oils with his uncle, Alain Clerir, an artist and a great Haitian music composer. He then studied at the Universal School of Paris. A religious man, Dupoux joined the Congregation of Brothers of Christian Instructions where he spent seven years. He continued his studies in art with the famous religious artist Marcel George. Dupoux was obliged to leave the institute when his father became ill. When the Centre d’Art found out about his talent, they called him to have an exhibit with Maurice Borno. Other exhibitions abroad received acclamation for his watercolors and his pen and ink drawings. Immediately after, Professor Montagutelli called upon Dupoux to offer him the position of professor at the Academie des Beaux Arts. Dupoux died in Port-au-Prince on January 25, 1988.
