Robert Wood is known for landscape, coastal view and still life painting. Biography from the Archives of askART. A painter of realistic landscapes reflecting a vanishing wilderness in America, Robert Wood not to be confused with Robert E. Wood is reportedly one of the most mass-produced artists in the United States. His painting became so popular he was unable to meet all of the demands, and many of his works were reproduced in lithographs and mass distributed as prints, place mats, and wall murals by companies including Sears, Roebuck. He was born in Sandgate, Kent on the south coast of England near Dover, the son of W. Wood, a famous home and church painter who recognized and supported his son’s talent. In fact, he forced his son to paint by keeping him inside to paint rather than playing with his friends. At age 12, Wood entered the South Kensington School of Art. His itinerant existence took him to Illinois where he worked as a farmhand, to Pensacola, Florida where he married, briefly in Ohio, Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. In 1912, he was in Los Angeles, and In the late 1920s and early 1930s, in San Antonio, Texas, where he lived and in 1928 exhibited in the Texas Wildflower Competition. From San Antonio, he gained a national reputation for his strong colored, dramatic paintings. Some of that prestige has been credited to his asssociation with Jose Arpa, prominent Texas artist. Wood also gave art lessons, and one of his students was Porfirio Salinas. During this period, Wood sometimes signed his paintings G. Day or Trebor, which is Robert spelled backwards. In 1941 he went to California and painted numerous desert and mountain landscapes and coastal scenes. Beach Day Oil on Canvas Original Painting by Dusan Ocean Coast Waves Sand
The sides are painted black and a hanging cord is attached. The painting is signed on the front at the bottom and on the back. About Videos of my paintings. Video will open in a new window. Ever since I can remember I have drawn and painted and told people when I grow up I want to be an artist. Reinforced itself when I completed my BA – Fine Art Painting from the Victorian College of the Arts and continues to this day. I mainly work with oil paint on canvas applied with palette knives and brushes. My second favourite combination of mediums being watercolours and ink on heavy paper. The main themes that I love to paint and explore in my work is Beachscapes, Cityscapes, Cafe scenes and Boat Marinas. This is mainly completed using an Impressionistic approach to appearance, I also experiment in a geometric heavy style borrowing from cubism. People play an important part in my work and are as important as the landscape they find themselves in, this allows me to create narrative and direction for the flow through the image. In 1996 while completing my year 12 education and preparing for university it became apparent that I would require an adult sized portfolio to be able to compete against other adults and graduates for a position at The Victoria College of the Arts. With much help from my year 12 teacher Michael Bowden I was successful at getting in straight out of Secondary School at the age of 17. Some of my tutors were Victor Majzner, Kim Donaldson, Jan Murray, Philip Hunter and Jon Campbell to name a few. My portfolio also gave me the opportunity to get a painting into the National Gallery of Victoria exhibit : Starting out: VCE Top Cats in 1997. In the years to follow I had my work in various group exhibitions mostly held in artist run spaces in Fitzroy and Brunswick in Melbourne along with group shows held at the VCA. In 2005 my family and I moved to Perth and I started to sell my work online with the intention of reaching a wider audience and have greater control over subject matter. In 2006 I began working full time as an Artist. In the last 12 years I have attempted to better understand why I do what I do and choose the things that I paint, and endeavour to connect to my ideas in a stronger way. Ive strived to improve my technique every day over the years and continue to, as I have a long way still to go. I hope you enjoy my paintings and thanks for looking. EUGENE GARIN Original Painting Large Oil On Canvas Signed Seascape Artwork Waves
“Battling a Stormy Sea”. Eugene Garin Russian Artist: b. Eugene Garin studied with the famous Russian artist Peter Effremovich Fedatov during his youth. The works of I. Alvazowsky later influenced him. Combining the beauty of European art with contemporary techniques, Garin created revolutionary methods of seascape painting. He is best recognized for his introduction of the “transparent wave”, huge foaming waves often referred to as the “Garin Wave”. The sea is always the commanding force in his paintings, its rich beauty and vastness exemplifies in each composition. The jewel in Garin’s crown has always been his wonderful shipwrecks; always in demand, very seldom offered for sale, they are truly the representatives of the master’s art. Considered the patriarch of modern seascape art, his paintings hang in many major collections throughout the globe, including Canada, England, South America, South Africa, Japan, Mexico and Russia, as well as hundreds of American homes. Eugene Garin is an artist who appeals to both the novice collector and the connoisseur. He is listed in Who’s Who the West, Who’s Who in California, The Encyclopedia of American Art and Artists, as well as the American Art Analog(an encyclopedia of this nation’s most influential artists over the past 200 years). Garin has artwork in the permanent collection of the Russian consulate in San Francisco along with the Presidential Palace in Panama. Garin has been featured in national magazines and his works have been on tour around the world for public display.
