19th C. MYSTERY ARTIST ANTIQUE PORTRAIT WOMAN in NATURE ORIGINAL Oil on Canvas
Truly Marvelous 19th Century Mystery Artist painted this Lovely Antique Portrait of a Woman in Nature/Landscape. It is an Original Oil on Canvas from the mid to late 19th C.. It depicts a woman in a purple and black dress with a white apron, in repose, under a tree. She leans her head in one hand, possibly waiting for her beloved, who has kept her waiting too long (a fleeting smile on her lips). Luminously back-lit, the area around her head is marvelously contrasted by her dark dress and the folds in it. Paint application is heavy enough to give depth to the piece, especially the foliage on the upper right (see 3rd to last image). The piece is unsigned and has had 2 small repairs done years ago (see last image). There is craquelure fine pattern of dense cracking formed on the surface. It can be a result of drying, aging, intentional patterning, or a combination of all three throughout the piece. It is also a little out of square. Canvas measures 11 3/8 X 16 3/8 and is in Good Antique condition. There is wear along the edges, especially the top right (see 2nd to last image), but will be covered once framed. WONDERFUL PAINTING ON CANVAS OF PABLO PICASSO SPANISH ARTIST, SIGNED AND SEALED. In France in 1937. Picasso was intrigued with the subject, and revisited the theme numerous times that year. This painting, created on 26 October 1937. Was the most elaborate of the series. Its dimensions are 60 49 cm, 23 19 ¼ inches. Was Picasso’s mistress from 1936 until 1944. In the course of their relationship, Picasso painted her in a number of guises, some realistic, some benign, others tortured or threatening. For me she’s the weeping woman. For years I’ve painted her in tortured forms, not through sadism, and not with pleasure, either; just obeying a vision that forced itself on me. It was the deep reality, not the superficial one. Dora, for me, was always a weeping woman…. And it’s important, because women are suffering machines. Unfortunately I do not have c. The collection comprises of drawings by various artists, some more well- known than others, which are in pencil and ink and from various decades throughout the 20th century. The painting is in excellent condition. The measurements for this painting are 31,5″x 23,5″. Under Italian law, Legislative Decree No. 41 of 24/01/2004, art. 179, Code of Culture Heritage.
