Offering Rare Cubism Original oil, painting, on canvas signed Georges Braque w COA. Cubist, rare oil on canvas painting of a fractious still life composition. Size of the artwork is 29.8 x 25.1 centimeters. Very good condition of the artwork can be appreciated, aging of canvas can be noticed. Braque in the lower left margin. The artwork is currently unframed, stretched on the original stretcher, further restoration is not necessary. The artworks comes with documentation, a registration at National Fine Arts Title Registry, COA which came with the artwork when acquired, transfer of ownership of the artwork to the new owner and transfer of registry records to the new owner, provenance markings as stamp, label and other writings can be found on verso of the artwork. The artwork is described in the documentation and offered as unique artwork, in manner of the artist. The artwork was acquired in estate liquidation sale in France. Conversations about about Cubism most often begin with Picasso, but none can exclude Georges Braque, his quiet and more hermetic co-inventor. Though overshadowed personally by Picasso, Braque played an unquestionably important role in developing modernism; he was a lesser participant in Fauvism before making his most significant contribution as a Cubist and as the inventor of papier-collé. Leaving the technique of little cubes behind, Braque continued to build on the language of Cubism – primarily its complication of space. He sought what he called a manual space that embodied the rapport [that] exists between [objects] or between them and myself. This notion was born of what Braque described as the yearning I have always had to touch things and not merely see them. One of the leading founders of Cubism, Braque employed the genre of the still life to conduct a lifelong investigation into the nature of perception through the tactile and transitory world of everyday objects. Alexander Astahov is known for his colorful, surrealistic style and his signature butterfly featured in each of his works. His series of magnificent interiors pays tribute to the masters, including Miro, Chagall, and Van Gogh. Astahov was born in Petropavlovsk, Russia in 1955. He studied at the High School of Arts in Oryol from 1972 till 1977 and later completed Post Graduate study and work at the Moscow Surikov High Art Institute.
