Gustav Klimt embarked on a cycle of radiantly colourful and richly detailed portraits of women that he would continue until his death. The most famous artist in Vienna and widely recognised as being one of the finest ever portrait painters of women, Klimt, in these later, more joyous, colourful and painterly portraits extended the Orientalist mood of his earlier Byzantine-inspired’golden portraits’ into a even more dramatic play between figuration, decoration and abstraction. Klimt took many months and sometimes even years to complete these extraordinarily sumptuous, painstakingly worked and almost fantastical paintings. With their unique way of embedding their female subjects like jewels or flowers into an almost abstract decorative parade of rich floral and oriental form and colour, they are among the artist’s finest and most modern paintings. Kadishman was born in the British Mandate Palestine in 1932. His father, who was a pioneer, died when Kadishman was 15 years old. From 1947 to 1950, Kadishman studied with the Israeli sculptor Moshe Sternschuss at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv, and in 1954 with the Israeli sculptor Rudi Lehmann in Jerusalem. In 1959, he moved to London, where he attended Saint Martin’s School of Art and the Slade School of Art. [2] During 1959 and 1960 he also studied with Anthony Caro and Reg Butler. [2] He remained here until 1972; he had his first one-man show there in 1965 at the Grosvenor Gallery. His sculptures of the 1960s were Minimalist in style, and so designed as to appear to defy gravity. This was achieved either through careful balance and construction, as in Suspense (1966), or by using glass and metal so that the metal appeared unsupported, as in Segments (1968). The glass allowed the environment to be part of the work. Kadishman lived and created in his house in the city center of Tel Aviv. Kadishman was divorced, has 2 children. His son, Ben, is also a painter and his daughter, Maya Kadishman, is an actress who is married to the artist, Eran Shakine. On May 8, 2015 Kadishman died after he was hospitalized at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer. If you ever wanted to own one of his beautiful paintings, now is the time. There is no way that the digital image can show the beauty of this artwork by this important artist. Few people reach a level of fame where they are instantly recognized by the mention of their last name. When people of any level of art awareness hear the name TARKAY, they know immediately that the speaker is referring to ITZCHAK TARKAY, the living artist whose work is in the highest demand of any today. We are saddened to announce that World-renowned artist Itzchak Tarkay died unexpectedly Sunday, June 3, 2012 after emergency heart surgery. The Israeli artist was visiting metropolitan Detroit as the featured guest at a collector’s event hosted by Park West Gallery. Itzchak Tarkay 1935 – 2012. Tarkay’s works celebrate the beauty and intimacy of woman and are noted for their vivid use of color. His subjects, dressed in shades of red, yellow, blue, violet and green, sit or recline against boldly colored backgrounds. Two women at a café engrossed in intimate conversation. A female figure draped in a patterned skirt lounging on a chair. A melancholy lady alone at tea. These are snapshots of life as seen through the eyes of Itzchak Tarkay. Today, Itzchak Tarkay is one of the most popular and loved artists in the world. A modern master, Tarkay draws upon the entire realm of art history in a body of work that is not only aesthetically agreeable and compositionally seductive, but a cultural phenomenon responsible for countless love letters, innumerable nights of passion and incalculable furtive glances – the very substance of visual poetry. Itzchak Tarkay was born in 1935 in Subotica on the Yugoslav Hungarian border. When he was only nine years old, the Nazis sent Tarkay to Mathausen concentration camp. While still at school in Subotica he won a prize for excellence in painting. In 1949 he and his family immigrated to Israel and were sent to a transit camp for new arrivals at Beer Yaakov. Their next two years were spent in a kibbutz. In 1951, Tarkay received a scholarship to the Bezalel Art Academy in Jerusalem, where he studied for a year before having to leave due to difficult financial circumstances at home. In order to continue his scholarship, he was allowed to study under the artist Schwartzman until his mobilization to the Israeli army. After returning to the familiar environment of Tel Aviv, Tarkay enrolled in the Avni Institute of Art, which he graduated in 1956. His teachers there were Monkady, Janko, Schtreichman and Sematsky. Tarkays roots as a painter take hold in the decisive years of modern art. The bright colors and flat patterns build on the paths forged by Matisse, Mouly, and the Fauves. Like Picasso and Tobiasse, the sculptural grows stronger than the pictorial. Tarkay constructs a perspective and then takes it away. The paintings go through an abstract transformation, the perspective dissolves into colors and shapes, her face remains, and the world reconstructs around her. She is the natural woman – satisfied, calm, and serene. There is an ancient mystery in the work of Tarkay that must be discovered for oneself. This is what Tarkays paintings achieve. Tarkays fertile female form is a timeless enigma. The poses that Tarkays figures manifest are every bit as classical as The Winged Victory or Venus de Milo. Tarkay dives deep into history, and brings up pearls for our times. The quality of his line is organic, the quality of his woman, his art, is magic. And there you can search all of my auctions.
