Bernard Corey is nationally recognized as one of the finest plein air realist landscape painters active in New England during the twentieth century. He was also one of the most highly honored with approximately 100 awards including seven gold medals to his credit. Corey painted on location all over the Northeast alongside other great New England masters who were his friends including Aldro Hibbard, Lester Stevens, Emile Gruppe and many others. Corey was a member of The Allied Artists Society, The Salmagundi Club of New York City, The Guild of Boston Artists, The Hudson Valley (NY) Art Association, The North Shore Art Association, The Academic Artists Society, The American Artists Professional League, The American Watercolor Society and The Rockport Art Association. He was a founding member of The Blackstone Valley Art Association. He was featured in several national art periodicals, including The American Artist, Palette Talk and American Art Review. Many of his paintings are in galleries throughout the United States and several are in other countries. There have been several retrospective exhibits of Coreys work since his death in March 2000 including at the Guild of Boston Artists in Boston , the Rockport Art Association and other locations. Corey specialized in trying to capture the actual light and mood of the days on which he painted. As he used to point out often, perfect days are rare and in fact it would be pretty boring to paint perfect days over and over. He loved the subtleties of New England s changing weather and atmosphere and capturing those subtleties is what he found interesting. Get images that make Supersized seem small.
