Oil Painting by Edward Loyal Field (E. L. Field) Before the Storm
Field (1856 – 1914) is best known for his etchings, but he did this oil painting and did a rather good job of it. Edward Loyal Field was a late-nineteenth century landscape etcher and painter. Born in 1856, he studied art in Paris, France, under Carolus-Duran, returning to the United States in 1882. He lived and worked in Manhattan for the balance of his career. A full member of New York’s prestigious Salmagundi Club, Field exhibited in major exhibitions in Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Chicago and San Francisco. He died in 1914. The frame is about 36″ by 26″ and the exposed part of the painting is about 29-1/2″ by 19-1/2″. Framed picture is less than three inches in thickness. Weight of the framed picture is 12.5 pounds.
