A substantial and well rendered oil portrait painting of an American woman, signed illegibly and dated 1850. I was told the sitter was a wealthy Southern woman from the Antebellum period, but I dont know how to verify this. Overall in good condition and presents nicely. It has been restored in the past: cleaned, relined, re-varnished, housed in a contemporary frame. There are scattered spots of in painting mainly to fave and hands, as well as scattered areas of small paint loss/wear. 43.75″ x 35.5″ framed. Huge Antique 18th C. English Portrait Noble Lady Courtyard Oil Painting c. 1725
This listing is for the Huge Antique 18th C. Portrait of a Noble Lady in a Courtyard pictured above. A beautiful, stately English School portrait of a noble lady in a courtyard, dating to the first half of the 18th century. This wonderful portrait depicts a young lady in an elaborate, vivid red dress with white lace accents. She carefully holds up her dress in her left hand and gestures with her right. She stands in an open courtyard with a short staircase visible in the background, which also includes numerous clusters of trees. The work is an oil on canvas and appears to be unsigned. It is housed in a wood frame. There is an older label from the 20th century on the reverse that is inscribed Mrs Bardsley, which may refer to either the sitter or a previous owner. Brown and Merry – Tring, UK (1994). Private Collection – PA. 47.5 inches tall by 39.875 inches wide (painting). 50.75 inches tall by 43.5 inches wide (frame). Condition : Good overall antique condition. Professionally conserved and relined on new stretcher. Scattered minor surface abrasions. Inpainting is difficult to detect under uv light (Ive included a photo of her face under uv light for reference). Scattered wear and losses to the frame. It is ready to be displayed and enjoyed! Minor tear in the chest which has been mended. Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, KG, GCB, GCH, PC, FRS (1 May 1769 14 September 1852) was an Anglo-Irish soldier and Tory statesman who was one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Britain, serving twice as prime minister. He ended the Napoleonic Wars when he defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The Duke of Wellington is portrayed wearing The Distinguished Order of the Golden Fleece (Spanish: Insigne Orden del Toisón de Oro, German: Orden vom Goldenen Vlies) which is a Catholic order of chivalry founded in Bruges by Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in 1430, to celebrate his marriage to Isabella of Portugal. 19th Century Early American Primitive Oil Portrait, style of Jacob Eichholtz
Eichholtz did not sign many of his works and this piece is unsigned. It is the spectacular lace collar that leads me to think he is the artist. The picture with frame is 25″ across and 30″ in height. There are two small specs of paint missing to the upper right but the back of the canvas is solid. The age is obvious by the back of the painting and it has not been restored, was very well protected all of these years. My guess is that it was painted in the first half of the 19th century by a master portrait artist who knew his craft well. Nice use of lighting on the face, with the left shoulder of the composition covered by a brilliant red velveteen shawl, a contrast to the staid nature of the subject. This bold and colorful 1950’s-60’s oil on canvas board measures 26″ x 24″ in its period gray-wash rustic wood frame; 24″ x 22″ actual and depicts a couple… The large fields of carefully modulated primary colors are divided by wide slashes of black and the brushwork is generally vigorous with pleasing textural variation. I see no signature. The frame is as found with some dirt and scuffs; the painting has recently been cleaned and varnished. You will note some dust in the details/texture of the brushwork. Jose Luis Figueroa Oil Painting Collage 1960s Young Black Man Portrait Vintage
This beautifully composed and delightfully colorful oil and magazine page collage on canvas measures 30 5/8″ x 22 3/8″ framed; 27 1/2″ x 19 1/4″ actual and is signed Figueroa lower left and on the back (along with the date 1963). The canvas is a salvaged food sack and the stretcher bars are solid mahogany and the frame is from the 1960’s. It depicts a handsome slender young black man in a curb yellow shirt and tight-fitting purple trousers. The artist has used popular publication cut-outs to provide a background of posters and ads as well as the object he holds in his hands. The paper has some stable, old splits and the canvas is free of holes and tears. Portuguese artist Jose Luis Figueroa b. 1925 created a body of popular cubism-inspired works with some inspired use of mixed media.
