Big, Beautiful Oil on canvas Art Painting by the highly listed artist: Larry Prellop. Not a print, original oil. Measures 44″ long by 33″ high overall with the canvas being 36″ long by 24″ high. The painting is in fine condition with no issues. The frame has some separation at one corner (see photo). Larry Prellop was born and raised in Austin. His parents owned property on Lake Travis, where the youngster began his love of water. As a teenager, Prellop attended school, went to work, and then spent his evenings painting while he watched television. From that point on, Prellop began entering small arts and crafts shows throughout Texas, with the goal of eventually becoming a gallery artist. He credits Porfirio Salinas, Robert Wood and A. Emile Gruppe- Born in Rochester, New York, Emile Gruppe became a renowned New England landscape and marine painter. Although he is best known for his variety of Impressionistic landscapes, he also painted figures and portraits. His modern style was largely inherited from French Impressionist Claude Monet. “Lily Pads, ” date and location unknown, one of Gruppes landscapes, attests to Monets influence and is similar to some of the paintings in Monets “Water Lily” series. He was the son of landscape artist Charles Paul Gruppe, and was born in 1896 in Rochester, New York. He had a very strong art background. In addition to being raised by an artistic father, he was also educated in art at The Hague in the Netherlands and in New York City at the National Academy of Design and The Arts Students League. He also received instruction from artists George Bridgeman, Charles Chapman, Richard Miller and John F. Carlson, with whom he would later founded, in 1942, the Gruppe Summer School in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He made his permanent studio in Gloucester. His artistic career had begun in 1915, but was briefly interrupted in 1917 when he spent a year in the United States Navy. Gruppe’s prolific career brought him many awards and memberships. His popular painting “Winter, Vermont, ” date and location unknown, won the Richard Mitton Award at the Jordan Marsh Exhibition in Boston in 1843. Condition: Exceptional with no damage whatsoever to the art itself, very minor wear to frame. Provenance: Acquired from a local (Des Moines, Iowa) prominent Jewish family as a part of an extensive artwork and sculpture collection. Moshe was born March 2, 1937 in Bucharest, Romania. With his parents he fled from the Nazis and after stops in many countries, reached Israel. He studied art at the Bezalel Academy of art in Jerusalem, as well as the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He recieved second prize in the Israeli Group Artisit show in Haifa in 1959. Exhibits featuring the paintings of the young artisit in the United States have taken place in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Winnetka.
