Original Signed Canadian John Powell Hunt (1842-1932) Pumpkin Patch Oil Painting
John Powell Hunt was born in St. Mary’s, Ontario and died in London, Ontario. Working in both oil and water colour, he painted landscapes in and around the London area, mainly with the addition of cows and sheep. He also painted still life and portrait subjects in the academic style of Judson, his mentor. He moved to London in 1975 to study with William Lees Judson and met and knew Paul Peel, who at that time was another young student. Later he studied in Toronto under John Colin Forbes. He exhibited at the RCA in 1882 and 1913 and at the AAM between 1911 and 1914. His series of portraits of London’s mayors are in London City Hall. His paintings are also in the permanent collection of the London Art Gallery. He was father to Thomas Lorraine Hunt another notable Canadian painter.
