WONDERFUL BIG 1940’s COWBOY PORTRAIT BY NEW MEXICO ARTIST D KUSIANOVICH TOM MIX
This is just a terrific 1940’s painting of a portrait of a Cowboy that looks a lot like Tom Mix, by listed WPA era artist. Cowboy has such an easy going expression in this work that surely belies the hard work and tough life these guys actually lived. But thats the thing about Kusianovich, he can bring out what he sees in a person and put to canvas or paper with ease, detail and feeling in his fantastic portrait work. The cowboy is almost. But I can’t quite place the face though he sure looks a lot like Tom Mix, though I cannot be positive. Just a piece that is a super representation of the ole Southwest. This painting comes straight from the 2nd floor storage area of the family estate and is first time to the market in probably 50+ years. It comes now framed as you see it as I recently got it finished, its framed size is 26″ tall x 19.5″ wide. Any questions PLEASE ask! Some info on the artist. DAN KUSIANOVICH (1898 – 1965) – Painter, Watercolorist & Master Portrait Sketch Artist. DAN Kusianovich was born in. 1898 in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on the Adriatic coast. He moved to NM in the 20’s and studied with Peter Hurd and Henriette Wyeth as well as the Taos artists in the 30’s during that classic WPA Era. He lived around Fort Stanton in the Lincoln NM area. As well as a few other places in NM and TX. His works were exhibited at the Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe and the Albuquerque Museum. He also has a few permanent works in other New Mexico Museums and landmarks as well as in some prominent homes throughout New Mexico. His sketch works have, by some, are considered to be his best medium and work. His art reflects the things he knew and loved best; the Southwest landscape, the Navajo People, and the sea. He died in Albuquerque NM in 1965. The item “WONDERFUL BIG 1940’s COWBOY PORTRAIT BY NEW MEXICO ARTIST D KUSIANOVICH TOM MIX” is in sale since Friday, October 11, 2019.
