My listing today for an ORIGINAL acrylic painting on artboard painted by internationally recognized aviation artist Peter Champion. This dramatic original painting is signed by the artist in block letters. The piece is professionally framed in an attractive walnut wood frame with gold gilt trim. The framed painting is ready to hang and measures approximately 25″ wide by 21″ high, with an image area measuring 20″ x 16″. The back of the painting contains the following annotation: Me 262 Peter Champion. I first viewed this original painting while attending the Duxford Airshow 1997 where I viewed the painting which was on display by a well known aviation art gallery. This is one of my favorite paintings and I’m confident its new owner will enjoy it as much as me. In addition, he served in the Royal Navy at age 20 and, in later years, was a glider pilot for 17 years, having completed 1080 flights. His artwork was commended by former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Champion passed away at the age of 85 on 25 March, 2014. Certainly, an impressive resume. The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the world’s first operational jet fighter and represented a quantum leap forward in aviation technology. Its development was plagued by delays, and very few reached operational status prior to war’s end. Its shark-like fuselage, swept back wings and dual Jumo jet engines gave the aircraft is distinctive appearance.
