Born in 1918 in Oklahoma, Salmon began art at an early age and progressed after moving to Texas in the 1930s. It was later when he moved to Oregon that the mountainous vistas of the Cascade ranges captured his vision. He often painted the same location at different times or seasons, to show the nuances in changes of light, shadow and foliage. His favorite of these locales included the Three Sisters Mountain Range and Mt Hood.
