Any help identifying the hand that did this magnificent antique oil would be very much appreciated. We know nothing about this work other than it is obviously religious subject matter and it is very very very old. There is a very old canvas that the work is presumed to have been done on initially. It looks from the side that the old canvas was attached to a newer canvas. Presumably due to the fragile nature of the paint, the canvas was then mounted to board. We have tried to take pictures to help an educated eye appreciate the condition of the work. We can see that there have been paint repairs over the years, the oil has significant cracking and the varnish has yellowed. We showed this work to a collector friend and they told us they believe it is from c. 16th century, although he was not an expert and we certainly are not either. Please examine pictures closely yourself and draw your own conclusions. Please note that the colors and skin tones appears to us to be a bit more muted in person versus what shows in the pictures. This work will be perfect for 1 a preserver with the talent and means to bring it back to its glory (and likely make a fortune on it) or 2 someone that wants to wrap this beauty in an old gold frame, appreciate the imperfections as a true antique statement piece in that special room in their stately home. This is a very rare amazing find for the right person. We have not had this work appraised and we list it reluctantly.
