Christ Italian Renaissance Old Master 18thC Large Fine Antique Oil Painting
Christ and The Two Sybils, Italian Religious Old Master 18th Century Large Fine Antique Oil Painting. A very fine and monumental oil on canvas depiction of Christ in a Temple with the Two Sybils, the Cumean Sybil and the Tiburtine Sybil. Unsigned, 18th century Italian School, beautifully painted with open and clear detail of the three figure’s features and clothing. In excellent condition, h oused in a fine gilt frame, ready to hang. Please note the large image dimensions of approximately: 47 1/4” x 31” (120cm x 79cm). Recently cleaned and re-varnished by our specialist and long established art conservator here in Norfolk. The present art being a post-prophetic painting showing Christ with the Cumean Sybil and the Tiburtine Sybil, both of whom prophesied the life and reign of Christ. Both women are shown here looking at each other as a realisation and confirmation of their respective prophecies. In my own collection and formerly with a private Gloucestershire collection. After Carlo Cignani, Italian Renaissance Joseph & the Wife of Potiphar, 1700’s Old Master Antique Oil Painting. An imposing and fresh to market 18th century Italian oil on canvas laid to board depicting a man and semi-naked woman in an interior. A finely and dramatically painted evocation of Carlo Cignani’s 1678 painting,”Joseph and the Wife of Potiphar”, from Genesis 39. The male subject appears here fully clothed and his female tempter is semi-naked and embracing him whilst he throws his hands up to heaven in desperation. 18th Century Italian Old Master Ruins Landscape Painting with Animals Oil / Canvas
This listing is for the 18th Century Italian Old Master Landscape Painting pictured above. This original 18th century work depicts a group of classical monuments and buildings surrounded by foliage, animals, and a figure. A body of water and mountains can be seen in the distance in the far left. Among the animals are sheep, cattle, and goats. The painting is an oil on canvas and measures about 22.75 inches wide by 16.25 inches tall. It is framed, measuring 26.75 inches wide by 20.25 inches tall. I did not see any signatures or markings. Areas of restoration typical for its age. A few spots of in-painting, including on the monument on the right side, above/left of the figure, and some areas in the sky/along the edges of the painting. OLD MASTER Oil Painting VISION OF SAINT JEROME Antique Panel 17 C. ITALIAN
A very fine Old Master oil on canvas, I believe it depicts the vision of St. Jerome in the Syrian wilderness. I acquired it in the 1980s in Paris, but I suspect it is of Italian origins. Although painted on canvas, it has been mounted, probably in the 19th century, on a fine old mahogany panel that has been strengthened against warping with oak cross cleats, although it still has acquired a slight bow to the panel.
