WHITE RAVEN Native American. The storm fell on the concrete streets where sirens echoed among those throwing bricks into his brothers. A raven landed blue as night and transformed into a robed one from long long ago. His earring as gold as the sun and a head dress of many colors he looked to the group before him. Why do you destroy your brother? Dont you know You are much much stronger together. He dissolved into their hearts. A new path is opening my friend. 18 x 24 inch original oil on Stretch Canvas Oil Painting. Signed and dated by artist. My Art work is high quality work. Each piece is done with care and emotion. Follow me on instagram. Com/laurelle_macy_studio to find the meaning behind this work. This painting is about be still and pay attention. The color and brush stroke is rich. The rich texture and a close crop makes this painting alive and engaging. The compelling color and the emotional charge make this painting personal. This is Professional quality oil painting. It is one of a kind. It calls up the spirit of American History, the frontier, the west, and those who are a free spirit. This work has visible brush strokes, full bodied and is alive. There are earth tones in each painting so that it fits in on any wall. Laurelle Macy grew up on a farm in northern Canada. Endless in its dimensions, untamed in its spirit, curious in its isolation, to Laurelle it is this and more. It is the stuff of passion, of creation, of timeless inspiration. Macys relationship with the land and its people is a seasoned one. Raised in a series of bush camps, Indian reservations and boom towns in Canadas North West Territories, Macy understood early on, that her paintings could act as windows to a world little seen by others, but well known and loved by her. Laurelle first obtained her Associates in Adverting Design. She worked as a graphic designer before moving on to get her Bachelors in art at Brigham Young University. After returning to the north Laurelle enjoyed success in a number of galleries, festival and commissions. Her and her family moved to Utah where she completed her masters degree at the University of Idaho and has been actively involved in advanced design education at the college level. Laurelles major talent lies in her portrayal of what she calls living material. The centerpieces of her artwork are native people, landscapes, and wildlife, all arrestingly alive in her paintings. Macys refinement of detail is engaging and her love of color apparent, at times immediate and aggressive, at others subtle and leading. Macy experience with color and composition seems to reflect the very personality of her subjects. To see her paintings and feel somehow touched by an open genuine spirit. This singular connection between the viewer and the subject is Macys desire. To paint the west, its people, animals and its landscape with compassion and insight, she hopes is her success. Laurelle Macys work has been shown in galleries across Northern Canada and in select studios in Utah. In addition to her work, Macy is faculty a national art institute, has illustrated childrens books, portrait painter and is a 3 time grant recipient celebrating northern native people. Her diverse career, where she worked along side Dene Nation elders and Inuit carvers, to the cutting edge world of graphic design gives her tremendous understanding and perspective. An artist of unquestionable talent with yet untapped potential. Macy is certainly someone to watch for. RARE Iconic Mary Whitfield African American Negro Folk Art Painting South Cotton
Whitfield an American Classic. A very rare African American Folk Art-Outsider Art Masterpiece by the elusive painter in her signature iconic style medium, acrylic/watercolor on canvas board. Appropriately titled,’Day is Done’, the painting is accompanied with a fascinating narrative describing the painting subject and hand written and signed by the artist herself. Although’Day is Done’ has been highly sought after for decades by museums and collectors, the painting is being offered here for sale for the very first time. Mary Whitfield has signed’Day Is Done’ twice, on the front of the painting with her distinctive, MW, and with her full signature found on the reverse of the canvas. Dimensions 16″ x 20″. Mary Whitfield was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1947 when her mother was nineteen. Her father walked out on their wedding day so Mary spent the first years of her life in the home of her maternal grandparents. It was a loving environment with two aunts who each had eight children. The home was filled with family stories and traditions. Marys grandmother was an active soldier in the Civil Rights struggle. As a child, Mary developed a vivid imagination and loved to spend hours entertaining her younger sister and cousins, by telling stories that she illustrated with drawings. When Mary was seven, her mother remarried a man from New York and moved there with her sister. She and her sister would spend every summer in Alabama. In Great Neck, Mary and her sister were pioneers in integration, being the only black members of the student body. During the early years of her marriage, Mary began having the compulsion to create things after her children were put to bed. She would often find old plywood and housepaint in her garage and would paint paintings. This compulsion became a continuation of her love for storytelling that filled her lonely nights. Bringing to visual life a variety of stories became her escape from the sadness in her marriage. Over time, she found that creating art was a way of coping with her depression. Whitfield focuses her rich paintings on the historical and modern plight of African-Americans. The powerful works contain little detail; the figures have no facial features. Instead, the drama of their gestures or body language conveys the feeling of the painting. The American Museum of Folk Art wrote that through her spiritually powerful images and writings Mary Frances Whitfield re-interprets and documents stories told to her as a child. Her deceptively simple yet touching portrayals of the disquieting and heroic history of African Americans convey injustice, suffering, love and optimism. Day Is Done’ is a masterpiece, a virtual tour de force. The paintings of Mary F. Whitfield are found in the renown museums and in private collections. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Keith Eric Joubert (born 1948 died 31 January 2013) was a South African artist and conservationist, and elder brother of wildlife filmmaker and conservationist Dereck Joubert. Born Joubert’s formative years were spent shuttling between highveld mining communities in the wake of his father, who was a mining surveyor. He attended no fewer than eleven schools, a history that fostered domestic instability but also created a sturdy, resilient character. His family’s regular trips to the Kruger National Park. Sparked an abiding love for the natural world. He studied Industrial Design at the Johannesburg School of Art between 1963 and 1967, thereafter working as book illustrator, political cartoonist, signwriter, and eventually in the advertising industry, developing the graphic style that subsequently informed his work, and turning professional in 1970. Joubert spent a great deal of his time in the bushveld. Finally abandoning city life permanently, and working from a studio in the Selati Game Reserve. Always on the move, Joubert explored Southern Africa. Becoming familiar with Namibia. North to the Ivory Coast. And the Okavango Basin. Where he had a houseboat and studio camp on the Linyanti River. Joubert’s works are to be found in many corporate and private collections worldwide. Believing that possessions complicated his life, he settled for his four-wheel drive vehicle, tent and camp bed. He is survived by his wife, Val. PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE PURCHASING. I INSPECT ITEMS WHILE TAKING PICTURES AND IT IS POSSIBLE THAT I MISS A DEFECT. I WILL ALWAYS POINT OUT ANY FLAWS I SEE.. MAHALO FOR VISITING KEKOA’S KOLLECTIONS!! Monday, February 11, 2013. Obituary – by Peter Comley Keith Joubert An exceptional man. Africa has lost a great talent. Keith Joubert was unquestionably one of the most gifted artists that this continent has produced. He was born in humble surroundings in Germiston in 1948, grew up in the tough Johannesburg suburb of Mayfair and passed away in the affluent northern part of Johannesburg at the end of January 2013 aged just 64. Those bones of his life belie the compulsion he had to travel to remote places and commune with the wild to gather the mental images he needed to capture Africa its animals, people and atmosphere on canvas like no other before him. He had many imitators but before they could catch up he would simply raise his game. He changed forever the way Africa would be painted. Jouberts works hang in many major corporate and private collections around the world and his clients include royalty from Europe and the Middle East. He has held major exhibitions in many of the art capitals of the world including London, New York, Paris, Texas, Johannesburg and Kasane. But to talk of Keith solely as an artist would be an injustice to my close friend and the godfather to my daughter. Over the twenty odd years that we were friends I came to know a man who embraced life more fully than anyone else I have met. Whether he was working, partying or travelling he did it, uncompromisingly, at full throttle. Half measures and mediocrity he despised as much as he did arrogance. He was at his most combative when it came to seeking solutions to conservation issues when his unique mind would seek answers from outside of the box. Where most followed convention Keith blazed new trails. Success in this world of ours attracts material gain but Keith disdained the accumulation of objects and his sprawling farm home was almost spartanly furnished while his studios in the Botswana bush were tents or simple cabins. The one thing that struck me most about Keith was his ability to treat everyone in the same jovial manner, whether she was a client from the British Royal Family or a petrol attendant at a dusty station he always engaged them in a similar friendly way. He caused many people to smile. He leaves an empty hole in the lives of Val, the woman he loved so transparently and deeply, and his talented brother, Dereck and his wife Bev , as well as his beloved goddaughter – not to mention princesses, friends and petrol attendants from around Africa. Go well my friend and may your soul have mercy on God because you know he cant keep up.
