MARK KOSTABI signed ORIGINAL 40 x 30 OIL PAINTING ON Canvas
Titled by the artist. “Cubic Euphoria (Blue Day)” , this work is an Original Oil Painting on Stretched Canvas 40″ x30″by Mark Kostabi 1996 from my private collection. Signed and dated on the top right. It is also signed, dated, and titled on the reverse in blue with size and Kostabi’s registration information. THIS PIECE IS LARGE, with exquisite and extensive detailing. It is in good condition with some surface soiling, and a scuff on the top right corner with some paint loss. Apologies for the poor photography on the reverse as the artist’s inscriptions are light and do not photograph well. Size : 40″ x 30″. Private collection Santa Barbara California, acquired directly from artist. Private collection Los Angeles. Private collection New York. Please contact me with any and all questions. Both a renowned composer and artist, Mark Kostabi’s works are both highly emotive and complex. His color choices and linework make for memorable Modernist images. Kostabi is nearly synonymous with the New York art scene. Having made his debut in 1982, Kostabi soon became a leading figure of the wild and heady East Village art scene – surrounded by the likes of Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat, and others. As a master of crisp, bold, surrealistic graphic-style images, Kostabi is an artist’s artist: one of his many side projects is a “game show” he hosts in which fellow artists and art critics compete to name his new art pieces. Another is “Ask Mark Kostabi, ” an advice column he publishes for artists. His work is also collected by an impressive array of rock stars, opera singers and other luminaries. Among many other notable commissions, Kostabi did the artwork for Guns n’ Roses “Use Your Illusion” and the Ramones’ “Adios Amigos” albums. Recently, Kostabi was recognized byPope Benedict XVI who officially blessed his bronze statue of Pope John Paul II at its inauguration in Rome. An always-prolific and dynamic artist as well as public figure, Kostabi divides his time between New York and Rome. All Auctions must be paid within 2 days. Peter Max (1937-__) was born in Berlin, grew up in China, and traveled with his family to Israel and throughout Europe before eventually arriving in America. He began painting, and soon rose to prominence in the mid 1960’s with expressionistic art that explored wild color juxtapositions. Max has painted four former U. Presidents: Carter, Ford, Bush and Reagan. His concern for world peace has led to his involvement in some significant political events, including stamp designs for the first United Nations Environmental Summit, and a carving from a portion of the Berlin Wall.
