The Model was Matisse study in 1916 Henri Matisse painted a master piece which is currently hanging in a museum, prior to painting the master piece we believe he painted this smaller version oil on Paper prior to the oil on canvas , according to a Matisse expert this oil on paper is glued to a canvas sometime in the 50s, the canvas was then painted with a green boarder. He furthered stated this is a bit different then the one in the museum he also compared it to the current room in the Matisse Estate and matched it. This original 1916 Paper, is + or – 19.75 inches x 25.25. Framed it is 34 inches x 29 inches. This oil on paper came out of the Whiting collection, a very large collection of oil paintings that were discovered by a Museum in Casa Grande Arizona about 9 years ago. Henri Matisse was one of the finest artists of this day, painting in a style reminiscent of classical figures, but using colors that were dramatic and bold, very French in his approach toward realism. This particular antique painting, which has cracking and we believe original 1916 oil paint, it is dated in the lower left corner, WITH AN EXCELLENT signature. Painting history upon request.
